Hello world, happy me
This is my first blog on Steemit after my intro post. I could barely find a community where I could post anything on my mind. Most of them were much based. I can't cook, and I wasn't seeing a Ghanaian community that was actually thriving. But I did see Nigeria. I don't know if we're allowed to enter communities that look like they're reserved for certain nationalities, so I found this writing community.
Judging from the names of those that post, I see it's a mix and it's not too niche-based. It's an honor to join. I'll share my writing with everyone.
Astrid just wants to be a happy boy. He does his homework, not just to avoid getting punished by both his parents and his teachers but to be a good student.
His father sold him a dream, "learn hard son and you'll always be above your friends."
Astrid learns like he will be shot if he doesn't. He's at the top of his class. He enters the classroom and everyone knows the smartest kid is around.
Astrid graduates being the very best in his town. He gets an award and a scholarship to Harvard. His father looks at him and tells him, "Son, I'm proud of you."
Astrid is happy because his father is happy. Astrid knew nothing but to make his father proud. He drew absolute relevance from his dad's validation, the Poppy's thumbs up. Astrid went on to college, impressed the professors, not with his genius but with his level of dedication to knowledge and skills. Before college graduation, Astrid had three letters sent to him, job offers. He took shots of them and sent them straight to his father. The father, unfortunately a bit sick, was still proud of Astrid.
When Astrid heard his dad was sick, he was heavily disturbed. He worked in the U.S., and his father, a poor man from South Africa working so hard on the farm, was not well. He asked his boss to give him a chance to go see his father. The boss, however, had to decline that because they knew that without Astrid's talent, running the startup wouldn't be that easy. So they made an arrangement to send his father some money for medical bills.
The sickness got worse and sadly, the father couldn't make it. When Astrid got the news, he passed out that very moment from the shock.
They allowed him to see his father, the dead body of his father. Astrid was never the same again after burying his father.
As you would have guessed, his reason for fighting, where he got his validation, is no more. Although Astrid was still smart from the knowledge he had acquired from years of hard work, he had lost all motivation, all reason to keep fighting.
A sad man he became until he met the love of his life, a girl that did all she could to make Astrid forget the pain. The girl knew Astrid was great but needed motivation. She taught Astrid how to get motivation from himself and not from someone else. But she still had to say, "Do it for your father," because she knew Astrid, by his childhood upbringing, would do anything if it was for his dad.
Just a notice, it was a not a real life story, it was made up so don't feel bad for Astrid.

I still remember my start here on the platform... It would have been impossible without the support of a few old hands – so feel free to get in touch if you have any problems!
I don't know about a Ghanaian community, but there are some quite active compatriots of yours on Steem. Feel free to use #ghana as one of your tags (not among the important first four) – then they'll see you, and you can also search for their posts by clicking on the tag.
As for Astrid (and everyone else ;-))) – never do anything to please others. The only truly important motivation comes from within.
Ohhh okay we could actually use the tag to search, yes I remember learning about that I had just forgotten to use that thanks a lot. I actually want to make friends that are outside my country as well so it's really nice meeting you.
