Confidentiality ... Keyword of the Week

Confidentiality.

If I confide something to you. It means I trust you. That you will not embarrass me by broadcasting a mistake I made or a shortcoming I am trying to fix.

Confiding something is a way to gain some distance from whatever it is to get a better view of it. To put it into perspective. The friend acts as mirror and allows me to see the situation through their eyes. They may have some insight or have been in a similar situation and share with me how they dealt with it and the outcome. They can encourage me and accept me as a friend even given what I have shared and offer support.

If the confidentiality is breached the love and trust is gone. Why did they expose me in my weakness? Perhaps they felt too much of a burden to hear my difficulty. Perhaps I misjudged their level of friendship to be more intimate than I thought and they wanted out. The friend has become an enemy.
