Learning how to learn

We're taught to learn, educate ourselves and build on our skills. It looks like the only way to get better in any field, craft or art. If we are left to ourselves with no tutor, I doubt everyone will have the same pace or speed of learning, even the motivation to keep going.

I have trained myself so well to know how to self-learn. I understand that education doesn't end in school. It shouldn't have been seen as only done on school grounds. Life is the real stage for learning but you're not going to get a teacher guiding you all the way to the very end. If you're blessed and graced to have people guide you, to have mentors and people whose footsteps you follow, it's a good thing and makes life easier as long as you're listening to what they say and acting on what you learn.

You may not get this all the time. In a position where everyone around is focused on their own goals and with no one to guide you with the right wisdom and through the right path, you need to do that job yourself. Learn how to learn. The main thing in learning how to learn is whatever technique you'll develop in understanding the things you learn. Without understanding, you can't say you have learned. The proof of your learning is your level of understanding. Not memorizing the rules of the game but understanding both the rules and the game itself.

I can't say it's how everyone is but for me, I've noticed I can easily remember things when I have full or enough understanding of it.

People have different IQ or brain power. The speed of understanding and processing information is different. I see the human brain as the processor of different computers. Some computers have higher RAM, ROM and processing capabilities than others. The tasks a higher, more advanced computer can handle, an old Macintosh can't do that. But with people, the difference is the old Macintosh can, it'll only be slower.

Regardless of the pace, if you keep returning to something you don't understand try to see it in numerous ways, eventually you'll understand it, no matter how complex it is. As long as you acknowledge the value in what you're learning, necessity will motivate and force you to learn and understand it.
