Will-o'-the-wisp/ "Fuego fatuo"

in Dream Steem17 days ago (edited)

Here I share another poem from my notebook of quick notes, which I never leave behind when I go out to run errands in the city.

“Will-o'-the-Wisp”

I trace in the light
the silhouette of the night
Scattering the trail of your breath
Delving into the silence
of the absent word.

Autumn sways in memory
I am a mirage of spring
That melts in the womb of the moon.

A hinge that shakes the sky
A torrential downpour
And in the midst of it all
A will-o'-the-wisp
brings you back to my arms.

#“Fuego fatuo”

te regresa a mis brazos.

People often prefer the illusion because it’s so much more comforting than the harsh truth. I love how you use the imagery of autumn for this. To me, autumn is tied to rot and decay and ghosts belong in autumn. It also should be buried away buried under the heavy winter.

Poetry can be interpreted in many ways. And I like the way you approach it. It's true that "illusion," like "faith," "makes us believe in or think about a better life than the one we have."

Autumn symbolizes "introspection" and the need to "let go of the past." I used the word in both senses.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving such an enriching comment.

That's the best thing about poetry. Like it's ever evolving for each different person who read it. And each different person reading it at different moment of their lives could have new discovery

That's right. In fact, even for writers themselves, a text written by them doesn't always mean the same thing or feel the same. Has that ever happened to you?
