What is independence?

Stumbling through every reformation
Ongoing until today
Living from history
Learning from nature

But not knowing what independence is.
This country has been standing for seventy-seven years
But it's just the same
Nothing special

Nothing special anymore.
From every corner of the city
The red and white flag is neatly displayed
A guide to past glory

Remembering the archipelago and its heroism
Now gradually fading
Swept away by a cruel wave of pain
One day it will be forgotten.

Who's to blame? Tomorrow is a national celebration
A gathering of the nation's kings
Maybe tomorrow night all the officials will be enjoying their nightlife

The flag raising ends right after it is lowered
There are no more interesting stories. A loud bang, echoing with a supposedly patriotic tune
On empty drums, the sound of which is louder than thunder

A very neat and random event welcoming independence
No less impressive than the strains of emotional music
All of this reminds us of the colonial era
Oh my,

Where is this country going?
Offrenda is the resting place of unsung heroes
They say the palace of the princess of the queen
The veterans just sigh

Making everything clear.
The cry of independence is a sign that we are free
But we are not free yet
In the far corner, the cries of a child can be heard

It's heartbreaking
We just stand still and stare at it all meekly.
Special entertainment through carnivals or whatever they call it
Everything seems to make us forget history

That we once fought, therefore we are free
Not the whiny cries of young children.
Who's to blame?
No one supports

No one responds
Everything remains the same.
Maybe in the future there will be no more history
There are no more unsung heroes

All will be exiled
Nationalism is no longer an intermediary between humans
Culture is no longer a reflection of civilization
History is no longer a gift
No more grace.
God has forgotten this nation.
