I got rid of mine a long time ago!

You do have a self!
For many of us on a spiritual path, we discover a place where we want to abolish our ego.
The monkey mind.
Our constant chatter box.
Oneness teachings and gurus from far and wide have told us that we need to get rid of the ego...
To reach enlightenment we must be one with the universe and can not have a self...
I don't know if we all got the joke.
The ego is a part of the mind...
It's a part of us.
We must kill the ego or banish it into the depths of our subconscious ...

I think we have misunderstood this teaching.
The goal isn't to get rid of the ego... But rather to realise that the ego does not contain who we truly are.
The ego is a representation ... An aspect of who we are.
When we are caught up in it's games we are reminded quickly of our true nature.
Embrace the ego.
Love and accept your ego.
Don't let it control you but rather allow it to be what it is...
A representation of who you believe yourself to be.
I give you permission to have an ego.

No one needs permission to have (or not have) an ego - it's a fundamental part of our incarnation as a human and not an optional thing to transcend. To be attached and identified with the ego is another thing....

I understand @artemislives ... But I know for me there was a time in my journey when I lived with a negative attitude towards my ego... Towards a part of my self. While exploring some emotions I found remnants of this self hate and wanted to share
