Teaching Yaya Good Manners helps her conduct herself Properly in Public and in other People's homes

It is amazing what having good manners can do it makes the people around you feel more at ease. So, after hiring a Nanny, be up front not just about your expectations of her and about your house rules, but also about how she should conduct herself.

Help Yaya Master These Basic Good Manners.

A. AVOID USING FOUL LANGUAGE ESPECIALLY WHEN CHILDREN ARE PRESENT.

  • Yaya shouldn't say anything Censorable ( cuss words, green jokes, offensive language ) even in her own dialect that can't be understood by your family and even if your child is not within earshot ( you never know).

HOW TO SAY IT

B. REFRAIN FROM GOSSIPING ABOUT THE FAMILY YOU'RE WITH.

  • What usually deters Yayas from Gossiping about their employers when waiting at your child's school is a deep-rooted sense of being part of your family. a Sense of Protectiveness comes with it. There's no harm in going the extra mile to make them feel at home they just might return the favor.

HOW TO SAY IT

C. KNOW WHEN TO SAY AND WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY

  • Finding the perfect timing can be tricky, but when in doubt, the best time is now, especially if your child's safety is on the line. this applies to both telling you the simple things, such as you already need to replenish your child's daily supplies, to the more sensitive issues, such as your child had an accident at the playground.

HOW TO SAY IT

D. ALWAYS SAY '' PLEASE '' , ''THANK YOU ,'' AND YOU'RE WELCOME ''.

  • These Magic Words go a long way. Besides setting this rule early on, remind Yaya about this, the instant she forgets to include these words in her daily conversations so that she will get the hang of it.

HOW TO SAY IT

  • Huwag kalimutang magsabi ng '' Please , ''thank you'' , at ''youre welcome''.

E. ALWAYS SAY '' PO '' AND '' OPO''

  • This Filipino Sign of Respect is also a way to strengthen your employer-employee relationship. By saying these words, Yaya acknowledges what you have just said to her and also affirms your authority.

HOW TO SAY IT

F. MIND THE VOLUME OF YOUR VOICE, AND DONT INTERRUPT CONVERSATIONS.

  • Whenever she may be, remind Yaya to keep the volume of her voice moderate, to speak in a polite tone, and to not interrupt conversations unless there's an emergency.

HOW TO SAY IT

G. KNOCK BEFORE ENTERING ANY ROOM

  • The most basic way for Yaya to show respect for privacy is to knock before entering any room .( This also serves as a safety precaution in case someone, especially a child, is standing right beside the door unseen). You should also do the same before entering her room. Better yet, make this rule applicable to all rooms in the house.

HOW TO SAY IT

H. DONT MAKE FACES WHEN BEING CORRECTED

  • Yaya has to be respectful, and making faces doesn't show that. She needs to know how to properly answer, defend or apologize for what happened (if need be).

HOW TO SAY IT

I. BE PRESENTABLE

  • Looking neat and tidy and smelling clean say a lot about Yaya's professionalism. Proper hygiene also benefits those around your nanny. It gives you peace of mind that your little one is in a safe environment.

HOW TO SAY IT

J. KNOW YOUR PLACE

  • In public places or in other people's homes, advise Yaya to not feel ''at home'', even you're host say so. Tell her to wait to be told to be seated and where. Remind her also to ask for the location of, say, the restroom instead of searching for it herself. Well, mannered Yayas are those who have been trained to stay put until they have been asked to move or to do something. they also automatically take their shoes off before entering a home, unless they are told not to.
