Is it true that Blind People Have More Sharp Hearing?

Hi steemians! How are you today? I hope you are good. Today I want to share about Is it true that Blind People Have More Sharp Hearing?

Every parent would want the birth of a child in a perfect and normal state. But in reality, not all humans are born under normal conditions. Some children born have disabilities or even have disabilities. For example defects in the five senses. One of them is birth in a blind or blind state.

Humans are born generally have advantages and disadvantages. If someone experiences a deficiency in one field, generally it has advantages in other fields. Likewise with the blind. Blind people have deficiencies in the vision where they cannot see. But did you know that blind people from birth have a very sharp hearing?

Based on the results of the Kelly Chang study published in the journal Neuroscience, information was obtained that blind people from birth can cause subtle changes in brain circuits. This change is very related to hearing. This result is stated as the first finding related to the change in the near cortex of the blind person. While the previous findings can only see changes without being able to explain the reason for the event.

In order to get an answer to the sharp hearing of blind people since birth, the team conducted a study by scanning the auditory cortex of blind people. In fact, they also conducted a study of people with anophthalmia, namely those who suffer from blindness with no eyes. The scanning process is carried out using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

In addition to scanning the auditory cortex, the study team also scanned the respondents when they took the hearing test. For example when listening to musical tones. Of course, the tones are played at different frequencies. When listening to the notes, the team measures the activity carried out by the brain in the respondent's auditory cortex. The measurement results are compared with other data as control data. Control data is data obtained from those who are able to listen on average.

The results of the study show that the size and type of cortex of the sample data with the control data are the same. But there are differences in processing audible sounds. Blind people from birth have a cortex that is more in tune with sound frequency when used as a study sample. The conclusion is that people with visual impairments can distinguish frequencies appropriately so that they have excellent listening skills compared to normal people.

Nevertheless, the results of this study need further research. This resulted in a small number of research samples, namely around 9 people with visual impairments and 5 normal people as control data. Thus further research is needed with much larger sample size. It could be found a more perfect conclusion related to the sharp hearing of blind people.
