The regent of Bandung targets to plant 2 million new coffee beans
Bandung Regent, Dadang M Nasser revealed the government of Bandung Regency through the Agriculture Department to target the planting of 2 million new varieties of coffee seedlings in 2018 and upcoming.
This step is taken as an effort to develop three new types of coffee varieties found.
"One million trees per year even this year could add 2 million trees," he said after the signing of cooperation between Bandung regency and Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Center on Tuesday (24/4).
He said local governments are also trying to facilitate farmers by providing disease-resistant seeds and harvests within a year. In addition, West Java Provincial Government is expected to participate in supporting the plan.
Because according to him, not only in Bandung regency but also in Garut, Sumedang, West Bandung regency and other areas directly adjacent to coffee plantations in Bandung regency.
"Development of coffee is growing in the community In this Mou, Puslitkoka also will support the development of Citarum Harum in the environmental field in Bandung regency," he said.
Previously, the Agriculture Office of Bandung Regency revealed that together with Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Center have found three new coffee varieties with unique taste and expected to sell in the market. It will soon release the products of these three varieties.
Head of Bandung Regency Agriculture Office, Tisna Umaran said three new varieties of coffee came from two places, namely two varieties found in 90-year-old tree in Pasirjambu. While the other one is on a 70 year old tree in Cilengkrang.
"The findings of new varieties were started from the report of the community that said there was a good quality of coffee in 2014/2013," he said on the sidelines of the signing of cooperation between the Government of Bandung Regency with Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Center on Tuesday (24/4).
