Beautiful Sunday: more work in the bamboo grove, ตัดกอไผ่ครั้งที่สอง

This is my entry for #beautifulsunday hosted by @ace108. Life has been very hectic lately and I still find myself trying to catch up with unfinished scheduled tasks these days. It’s getting better so I feel life is more manageable than last month. But then life throws surprises or unexpected events at you when you think it’s time to relax. At least, the bamboo grove is in much better shape which makes life much easier for my gardener. I am forever grateful to those nice workers and builders who come to work twice on the unruly bamboos.

It has become a tradition to prepare lunch for those workers who help out with our heavy tasks. I know they kind of looking forward to coming here as they would be well looked after, lots of food and iced cold drink. They often get free vegetables and fruits from the garden. Last time they got three buckets of tomatoes and a big bucket of young bamboo shoots. It’s nice to be able to share with good friends what we grow in the garden. There will be hundreds of mangoes in a few months. I really have to learn to make mango jam as there will be over ripe mangoes all over the place!

เราดีใจมากที่พวกคนงานและช่างหาเวลา มาช่วยตัดกอไผ่ที่เหลือจากครั้งก่อน จนเรียบร้อยและดูดีมาก คราวนี้งานดูแลจะง่ายขึ้นมาก คนสวนของเราจะได้สบายตัวขึ้นหน่อย กอไผ่หนักมากและยาวจึงต้องใช้คนช่วยกันหลายคน งานยากก็เลยเป็นงานง่าย พวกช่างเองก็ชอบมาทำงานที่นี่ เพราะเราจะเลี้ยงอาหารกลางวันและนํ้าดื่มนํ้าแข็งด้วย พวกเขาจะได้รับการดูแลอย่างดี และก็มีของฝากติดมือกลับไปด้วย เช่นนํ้าผึ้ง ผักในสวน และผลไม้ตามฤดูกาล ครั้งก่อนก็ได้มะเขือเทศไปสามถัง หน่อไม้ไปทำอาหารหนึ่งถัง ฝรั่งหลายกิโล มะเฟืองอีกด้วย เราก็ดีใจมากที่มีผลผลิตในสวนไว้แบ่งปันคนงานและช่างที่มาบ้านสวน

ตอนเที่ยงทุกคนก็กินอาหารกลางวันร่วมกัน เรามีมะละกอ มะนาว พริกในสวน ให้มาทำส้มตำกินกินตามใจชอบ เราให้คนสวนซื้อกับข้าวมาเพิ่ม และนึ่งข้าวเหนียวอีกหนึ่งกะติ๊ป เราชอบดูคนกินข้าวกลางวันล้อมวงกัน ทำให้เราคิดถึงตอนเด็กๆ ที่บ้านจะกินข้าวพร้อมกันทีละสี่โต๊ะกลม เสียงคุยดังสนั่นห้องอาหาร บรรยากาศมีแต่รอยยิ้มและความอิ่มอร่อย

We make sure that these hard working people would have a nice lunch together. My gardener would prepare something special for lunch such as fish tom-yum, minced duck meat in spicy salad. We always prepare ingredients for them to make papaya salad or som-tam which is always too hot for me! I like to give them lunch as the atmosphere of people sitting and eating together in a circle brings back fond memory of my childhood. I remember lunch time at home was always very noisy and happy as there would be people eating together around four round wooden tables at the same time! People would be laughing and talking very happily. We had a cook and two young helpers in the kitchen during the good old days. I have never experienced such a wonderful atmosphere of smiling faces while eating delicious food like that when I grew up. Those happy and satisfied faces made me very secured in my childhood bubble of certainty.

That’s my neighbours’ land in the east side.

The day was quite hot but we had the shade of those bamboos. I should not have planted so many, about 24 in fact. So, I decided to get rid of a few by the fence. Life would be easier for my gardener. Now we have lots of long bamboo polls which could be used to build temporary sheds in summer. Some of the workers requested some of these for building summer sheds. I expect they would be collecting these poles when they come to work on trimming other trees.

วันนั้นอากาศค่อนข้างร้อน แต่เรามีร่มเงาของต้นไผ่ เราปลูกไผ่มากไป เราจึงให้เขาช่วยตัดออกสักสองกอที่อยู่ริมรั้ว งานดูแลจะได้น้อยลงหน่อย และมันจะได้ไม่โค่นไปในที่ของเพื่อนบ้านด้วย ตอนนี้เรามีไผ่ลำยาวเหมาะสำหรับทำเพิงในหน้าร้อนมากหลายท่อน คนงานก็ขอเอาไปทำเพิงที่บ้านแล้ว เขารอให้มันแห้งก่อนค่อยมาเอาไปใช้ที่บ้าน ป่าไผ่ดูโปร่งขึ้นและดูแลง่ายขึ้นแล้ว เราอาจจะเอาออกอีกสักสองกอตรงหลังบ้านในอนาคต

They will come back in time for ripening mangoes!
