I am a blockchain developer, and I have just made contact with an IoT hardware guy

in #ethereum8 years ago (edited)

Our two world's are colliding. I contacted him after seeing his work in the news. We had lunch last week, and we are both quite excited about the potential opportunities that may be presenting themselves.

I am teaching him about blockchain, and he is teaching me about IoT (he is a hardware guy, I have no idea about hardware/circuit boards). We both have products that are out there in the real world right now, and we both have great experience at what we do.

Anyway, we believe that with our two skills we can potentially change the world for the better, even if only a little bit. :P

Was wondering what the Steemit community would like to see in the land of blockchain + IoT? Anything at all that you can dream up, we can probably build.

Thinking along the lines of micro-payments + IoT. For example, slock.it - things of this nature. Or anything, really. It is a pretty interesting space, I think with some thought and some work we should be able to pull something together that may solve an existing problem, or potentially create something completely new.

We have only just started conversing and are looking to meetup again this week, but I think we could possibly be a pretty powerful combination, so I am looking to the community for some way out ideas that we should start exploring.

If you have any ideas, no matter how crazy, let me know in the comments, you never know what could happen.

We are looking to build a prototype of something over the next month or so; we have a couple of ideas, but you guys here on Steem are all pretty switched on, so I thought why not ask what the 'real-world' would like to see (sometimes it is hard as a developer to to see the forest from the trees).

Obviously, I am not looking for you to give me a 'killer app' idea, but just thought I may as well harness some collective group thought on this situation. Many heads, are better than two. :)

I'm not sure how this party Steem applications will develop but I have no doubt that they will.

Here are a few examples of sites can run better on Steem: https://steemit.com/ecommerce/@manipulable/steem-to-the-moon-top-ten-use-cases-beyond-steemit-com-and-beyond-a-ponzi

The example I think related to you is Airbnb/CouchSurfing. If you were able to create a kind of Slock.it for Airbnb that does not process payments, and instead sells these app-controlled locks (whether through a smart contract or not), you could basically decentralise house sharing and make it easy more convenient!

To prevent people reviewing places they haven't stayed the lock could be connected to the website in some manner, so opening the door triggers your ability to review.

Here is the problem though... Let's say i am a high Power individual who stays in someone's house and then leaves a review. At the same time I comment on a blog post here on Steemit. The value of the review is much more than that of the comment, but to far fewer people. How will Steem balance the rewards in a world of multiple Steem apps that require different incentive structures and offer different values propositions.

I have a few thoughts on that and I'll be posting soon as things become more clear. I haven't received responses from anyone in the Steem dev community.

Make sure you develop a "Classic" version as well

Personally, I am staying away from ETC. Which probably means you should pour your entire life savings into it. Basically, do the opposite of me and you will be rich beyond imagination. :P

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 9.1 and reading ease of 76%. This puts the writing level on par with Michael Crichton and Mitt Romney.

Keep up the great work @etherguy
