Steem Monsters just absolutely blew my mind. I earned $0,27 or 0.7 STEEM in DEC for winning one ranked match on the higher levels.
Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) are the new in-game currency for the game Steem Monsters aka Splinterlands.
You can earn them by playing the game and winning matches or by destroying cards.
DEC will allow you to buy cool stuff like new skins for instance:
Or Orbs which contain 5 new cards:
Here is the result of my first match of the day.
AS you can see it earned me 290 DEC.
The higher level your cards are the more DEC you can earn.
There is a natural stop to earning DEC. The more you play the less you get per match. Just like Steempower.
Now, these DEC tokens besides in-game currency are tradable tokens.
You can trade them on Steem Engine.
And that's where we enter the mind-blowing territory.
Yes, you are seeing this right.
That one Steem Monsters match I played just now is worth almost 0.7 STEEM.
or under current Steem price $0,27!
Wow! That is insane.
Is this sustainable? That was my first question and I think the answer is yes if the Steem Monsters team can keep adding value to the DEC by just releasing new stuff that is awesome and what people want to have.
And so far they have been doing just that all the way. So I have no reason to doubt them.

I dunno, but I have noticed that my will to win the ranked matches has increased a lot and I'm sure I won't be the only one.

I just spent 5000 DEC on a potion for 25% increased chance of a legendary card and am now wondering if I should have just sold them! :)
Surely that price can't hold, seems like great value for DEC earners.
The potions are priced such that you can expect to earn a significant positive return from them. At the current market prices 5000 DEC is worth ~$5, but on average the legendary cards are worth ~$7-8 on the market. So at the moment, in my opinion potions are the much better buy.

It's a pretty reward, especially on the higher levels. I think I earned 12-15 STEEM today just having fun.
it is a really good feature I started playing myself again and more or less just stopped because my power was down.
I ve read that that there were ideas that you were able to recieve xp for your cards by playing with your none max lvl cards which would have been a great incentive to play more but that does the trick for me as well.
If the price is substainable...I have my doubts but it is motivating nevertheless
Not surprised the value as the economy of DEC to buy different items and cards will have it more valuable as player see if they have the value to improve collection and competition for tournaments! This is a great update that continues to demonstrate how great the project is!

I was also amazed by this new "system", It immediately made me grind some ranked divisions... :D
I think it is pretty awesome too. I used some of my DEC to buy a potion and I have been buying a bunch of orbs lately to try and get some of the new cards. I am happy to see they are coming out with new abilities and cards.
