Hi everybody. We are excited to be joining the Steemit Community!

Quaking Aspen Farms is a small farm located in the mountains of Far Northern California. VERY far Northern...like, we border Oregon and Nevada basically. We're also pretty rural - the nearest (20 minutes drive to) town has 250 people, and the nearest city is a two hour drive away. So yeah. Rural.

Us
So far, our flock consists of three Icelandic Sheep, four Kunekune Pigs, two Buff Brahma chickens, three Black Copper Maran chickens, and one Blue Copper Maran. We've also got Silkie eggs, Frizzle chicks, and Coturnix Quail eggs on the way. The quail and Silkie hatching eggs should be here this week! We also have one Livestock Guardian Dog, a Turkish Akbash named Josie. Our two pets/non-farm dogs are Teddy the German and Australian mix and Cobalt the Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Long term goals
Currently, we're not the happiest with where we live but it is ideal for starting out. Our sheep especially appreciate the cold weather, the pigs not so much but they have a heat lamp and pile right up under it. Plus, they're furry...Anyways, we're kind of undecided in which direction we would like to take, but we DO know that we want to get some place with actual grazing land. The mountains aren't known for their green pastures, as I'm sure you're aware of. We do want to get to at least 1200 head of horned Icelandic Sheep (we really love this breed) and want to get a decent herd of Kunekune's going for meat and breed stock since they're quite a rare in the US and we acquired some pigs with lines straight from New Zealand AND the UK.

As far as business goes, we REALLY want to be a farm that accepts cryptocurrency and we want to be able to ship fresh meat all over the US. We want to offer "virtual adoption" for our animals so that some don't have to be butchered just for making money. We want to be able to share the wool our sheep make because it's the neatest wool I've ever seen. We also want our animals to have a decent online presence because quite frankly, animals have personalities and when you get to know them they are just the god damned neatest things.

For our biggest of big dreams, we want to eventually have a guest ranch. Ideally on the coast, but someplace water front. It just has more to offer, you know? We want to stay in the Pacific Northwest at the very least. At least in the "green" states. ;) Otherwise I'd be all for Wyoming. I also want to have a set up for caring for imported livestock since they have to stay in quarantine for x amount of days. We are seriously considering trying to get some of that burnt Santa Rosa land and using our animals to restore the ground as a service to the rest of the community. Burnt land really is great for starting something new!

Right Now
We're just in the infancy. We just founded the company in December, though we're not new to farming just the business part. Our ewes and sows are pregnant and they're expected to be due around the end of March and April. Our chickens are only a few weeks away from laying their first eggs. Josie is a puppy but just starting to get big enough to hang out with her herd and do her job. Our living place is kind of falling apart but we hope this is temporary until the wind blows us in the right direction. At the very least, we hope it takes us to a place where there is decent internet and our only option isn't Verizon.

Steemit Plan
Well, I hope you enjoy what I have to post from now on. I plan on writing educational articles about the breeds we have, some farming tips and tricks, some political updates as it regards to farming, the ups and downs of raising animals, and in general staying engaged with followers and answering any questions!
