Last Italian health minister campaign 'fertility day' raised the rage of all country
The government action of encouraging Italians to give birth has become today reason of shame for many Italians in the world. The new campaign to raise awareness around fertility is considered by many (including myself) sexist and offensive to singles and couples that, for many reasons, cannot or do not want plan a pregnancy.
The image of a young lady holding a timer associated with the words 'Beauty has not age, fertility does' or the image a water drop with the words 'Fertility is a common good' clearly show a social vision of the woman as a child-maker, a walking womb.
The Italian government does not consider a social situation where having babies is impossible: in Italy many ladies in fertile age are required at work to sign a resignation letter with not date (to be filled by the manager in case of pregnancy); many girls do not get a contract or never find a job again once they have a baby and so on...
And, apart from that, many people do not want have babies. Being parents should be a choice and not a duty. And many woman and couples have taken a different decision.
The campaign has been compared to the fascist propaganda that invited ladies to produce new strong italians for the country.
I am shocked and dismayed to hear that something like this is still going on! While I made the choice to have children, I sacrificed pursuing a professional singing career. Never in my life would I sign a resignation letter without a date just in case of pregnancy. It's completely offensive.
neither do I and this is the reason for living abroad. You either sign or you leave because there is not job in italy :(
