NBC announced Wednesday that "Shades of Blue," a cop drama starring and produced by Jennifer Lopez, will end after its third season. The final season will debut on Sunday, June 17.

"Shades of Blue" joins a number of popular network series that will come to an end this year including "Scandal," "Once Upon a Time," "The Originals" and "The Middle." All five series have been given sufficient notice by their networks that they are ending that they have been able to write fitting series finales.

However, not all series are so lucky. Shows that have been abruptly canceled this year include "Me, Myself and I," "Wisdom of the Crowd" and "The Mayor." Two new series, "Ten Days in the Valley," and "Law & Order: True Crime" were both self-contained stories that had definitive conclusions and are not expected to return next season.

NBC promises that "Shades of Blue's" finale will give Lopez's complex character, Harlee Santos, a "fitting resolution."

"I have enjoyed producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world and playing such an empowering yet flawed character – a woman, a detective, but, first and foremost, a mother," Lopez said in a statement. "Now looking at it with a little distance, playing Harlee strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman. It's crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful. We crafted a poetic three-season arc on how her journey ends, which is true redemption. The way only Harlee could have done it – the hard way, the road less traveled. I thank NBC and all the talented actors, writers, crew and producers for going on this journey with us!"

Last season, "Shades of Blue" won its slot among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key demographic – adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.
