Wisdom & spiritual growth: Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips. Proverbs 14:7

The sapiential literature of the Bible constantly teaches the importance of seeking the most perfect science, the science of God, in order to live and be happy. If the fullness of spiritual goods in man were so easy to attain, neither philosophy, nor wisdom, nor ethics would exist. If there is something that abounds in bookstores and libraries are books on spirituality and self-help. Happiness, success, and well-being are actually very scarce and generally short-lived goods. This is why the sapiential books like Proverbs, Wisdom, Ecclesiastes, and Ben Sira are so necessary. The sapiential literature with its science for living complements the books of the prophets and the Pentateuch.
And within the sapiential literature, the Book of Proverbs stands out with its remarkable maxims for meditation and spiritual growth. And among the statements made by its author, probably King Solomon, famous for his wisdom, there is one spiritual teaching that should be taken as a principle of life, which says: "Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips" Proverbs 14:7. This teaching is very interesting because it explains that fleeting desires, selfish calculations, and the passions of fools lead nowhere. The Bible explains that fools cannot teach science but rather heresies, that is, error. What knowledge and prudence did Cain possess that he took the life of his brother Abel? What knowledge and wisdom did Rehoboam possess that, through his pride, he caused a political schism between Israel and Judah? What conclusions can we draw from these people? Obviously, and this is a matter of common sense, living with people like that isn't very smart. It is because of cases like these that the Book of Proverbs explains a similar maxim to the previous one with these words: "Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm" Proverbs 13:20. Delving into the study of proverbs, then, is meditating on sound judgment, on what builds up, what heals, what liberates. The wisdom that comes from God has meaning, and those who discover it through spiritual growth are blessed and truly intelligent.
