Una flor misteriosa y bella - A mysterious and beautiful flower

Accustomed to seeing the small patch of coffee plants growing along the riverbank—the same riverbank that was swept away by the monumental flood during Hurricane Melissa—the handful of ten plants visible from the other side of the road became the beginning of a slow process of observation, of unhurried contemplation, of a kind of incredible bond. Later, we visited the coffee groves, those vast plantations on the mountainsides: some forgotten deep in the woods, others living their moment of splendor. After all, the mountains of eastern Cuba have always been known for their high volumes of coffee production.
