Dinner at Three Wynwood in Miami

in #food6 years ago

One of my favorite things about living in Miami is the food scene. The city has so many options when it comes to restaurants, from seafood to barbecue to Latin and so much more. There are always new places opening up, which makes it fun to go out and explore. You can literally eat at a different restaurant every single night in Miami without running out of options.

Several weeks ago, my husband and I were hanging out in the Wynwood area on a Friday night after work when a new restaurant caught our eye. Perhaps it was the eye-catching building, perhaps it was the colorful painting of Frida Kahlo you could spot hanging up on the inside wall from across the street. I guess you could say this place just had a vibe that made us want to know more. And so, we went inside and decided we'd have dinner there without even looking at the menu.

What followed was an experience we wouldn't soon forget. Here's my experience having dinner at THREE WYNWOOD.

Three Wynwood is a restaurant by acclaimed chef Norman Van Aken. It is located in the Wynwood Arcade.

The dining room of Three Wynwood is very inviting. There are a lot of windows, a nice bar and a deep turquoise accent wall, which makes the place look and feel very trendy. You can choose to sit in one of the many round tables or at what's called the "chef's table," which allows you to see the food as it's being made and interact with the cooks while they work.

We chose to sit at a regular table but I definitely want to go back to get the chef's table experience.

Once we sat down, we were greeted by the most attentive wait staff I've seen in just about any restaurant and they explained how the menu worked – basically the restaurant is called Three because it's a prix fixe, three-course tasting menu. This means you don't order from the menu, rather, they bring you three different courses of chef's selections for the evening. You can also choose to get a fourth course for an additional charge.

Here's what we had.

The palate cleanser

Tile cracker with avocado topped with foam and a seaweed chip. This got your palate ready for the courses to come.

Boniato Bread

This bread is made with boniato a.k.a. sweet potato. It was served with maple butter and was so, so good.

Oh yea, I should mention these delicious bites were extras. Next up, were the actual courses.

Course One: Tiradito with leche de tigre

Tiradito is a Peruivian dish of raw fish. It's a lot like sashimi. This one was served with pieces of sweet potato and seaweed chips in a leche de tigre sauce (tiger's milk), which is made with lime juice, onions, salt and pepper.

Course Two: Clam Chowder

Poured at the table right in front of you.

Course Three: Oxtail Cannelloni

This was a small plate with SO MUCH flavor. Cannelloni stuffed with oxtail, served over chestnuts and a chestnut sauce.

and finally ...

Course Four: Crispy Duck

I'll admit that I was perfectly full with the first three courses. But the night we had dinner at Three, there was a duck on the menu that I just had to try. It was served in a pomegranate sauce (and topped with crunchy pomegranate seeds), along with a dollop of creamy potato on the side. I'm glad I had room because it was so yummy.

The verdict: I DEFINITELY recommend eating at Three Wynwood. It is definitely a higher-end place with a steep price tag of $75 per person. But it's a truly unique culinary experience and the food was exceptionally tasty. Plus, this place is setting out to be Miami's first Michelin Star restaurant so that's definitely cool for any foodies out there.
