In The Kitchen with CryptoKitchen: We're Frying Egg's Baby!!

in #food7 years ago

Alright folks, CryptoKitchen inaugural post here. We are going to start simple.

Eggs, the food of champions

Today we will be talking about eggs. Oh how much I love you. White, brown, speckled, little packets of goodness in their own protective packaging. So versatile yet so simple. How could you ever go wrong??? Well, unfortunately for us there is a BIG difference between a good egg and a bad one.

There are a multitude of options when it comes to cooking eggs. Today I will be talking about fried eggs. Fried eggs are one of my favorite ways to eat eggs. Simple, tasty, a classic preparation.

Fried... this is what you want

Fried eggs are the king of eggs. Perfect for eating by themselves, on top of a sandwich (or anything for that matter) or as a complement to many a dish (think beans and rice), a good fried egg is … good.

The Real Fried Egg

We are not interested in anything except sunny side up. If you like your yolks fully cooked you are evil and I don’t want to know you exist. Go ahead and unfollow me, this is NOT the blog for you.

To get the perfect fried egg it takes a few things.

  • A good pan
  • Some butter (oil is ok, but better is king)
  • A bit of patience

Start with your pan on medium heat. You want to give the pan time to warm up. Crack your egg too soon and all will be lost!

Not this hot ... please

Get It Hot!

Once your pain is at heat (sprinkle a few drops of water in the pan, they should boil instantly) you can add your lubricant. Give this a moment to heat up. If you are using butter allow it to brown slightly. This is an advanced technique as too much heat and your butter will burn while the right amount leaves you with a tasty, nutty flavor from the butter. Once your pan is at temperature and you have your oil in it, it’s time to crack your egg. I prefer the one handed technique (classier and cleaner) but I will leave this to your discretion.

Crack your egg into your pan and walk away….

Don't be this guy

The Challenge Begins

NO!! Don’t listen to anything that guy has to say! This is the really important part. If you are not using a nonstick pan, quit your job, move to another continent and buy a fucking nonstick pan (like seriously though, a good nonstick pan will make your life soooo much easier). Either way, after you crack your egg into the pan you have two tasks:

  • Wait a few seconds for the egg to begin to cook (creating your classic fried egg form)
  • And then moving/nudging the egg tso that it doesn’t stick to your pan. (This needs to be done gently but is rather important. Even the best pans can stick if you don’t break the tension at the beginning of the cooking process).

Now you are pretty set. I like to sprinkle a bit of paprika on top, maybe some salt and pepper, if you are feeling really wild you can add some cheese (wait until the egg is almost done).

The Home Stretch

As your egg continues to cook you will see the white begin to go from clear to opaque. Once the opaqueness has reached the yolk you are done! If you cook it longer than this I am not your friend!

Pro tips:

  • Adjust your heat so that the bottom becomes crispy.
  • If you must cook your yolk, flip your egg so that the yolk cooks quickly and the rest of the egg isn’t overdone.
  • Eat 8 of these every morning to get the best gains (yes bro I lift)

Thank you for listening to my thoughts on eggs. No I don’t want to hear yours (maybe if they are really good). If you post pictures of eggs you cooked (and the yolk is runny) I will follow and upvote.
