YummyNowandWow#4 – Mango 🍋 Sticky Rice 🍚 : the MOST Incredible Dessert You Never Tried!

in #food7 years ago (edited)

If Pad Thai is Thailand’s national dish, Mango Sticky Rice is its national dessert.

The basis is sweetened sticky rice.

Instead of using ordinary cooking rice, a special type of rice is used: long-grain Thai sticky rice.

Once the rice has been cooked, it is mixed with coconut milk, sugar and a pinch of salt. All of this is slowly soaked up by the rice, turning it into sticky sweet yumminess.

Once the sticky rice is ready, it’s put on a plate and topped with sliced mango.

You can get mango all year round, but you can get the sweetest, ripest mangos when they are in season. The season is from April – July. No worries, no need to remember this. You’ll know when it’s the season: you’ll know, when you see every single street vendor selling stacks of big juicy mangos!

To top it off, a sweetened coconut milk sauce is poured over the mango and rice. Finally, 1-2 tablespoons of fried or roasted crunchy yellow mung beans are sprinkled over it, and tada: dessert is ready!

This is the fourth post in the YummyNowandWow series:

We could all benefit from living more in the moment, and experiencing that sense of wonder we as adults often have lost along the way. This is also why I chose my Steemit name: @livenowandwow. It serves as a friendly reminder to myself – and hopefully also to you, as a reader – to not take what we have for granted, but appreciate it.

And trying out new foods is one of the ways to accomplish that!

If you are in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and have a sweet craving, definitely try Mango Sticky Rice. But you can also simply explore food options that are closer to home.

I have had it in California but the rice is white, I also had it in Bali and it was black rice. This makes me miss both those dishes!! Mmmm

Oh that sounds really interesting, black sticky rice?
