Travel Food - Japanese BBQ Restaurants

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ
This DIY barbecue chain has extended its reach to Chicago, and nearly every gas grill–outfitted table in the swank Gold Coast digs is filled with Japanese expats, apparently jonesing for a taste of this Korean-Japanese hybrid. Kimchi brings some Korean flair to the start of the meal that continues with plates bearing marinated raw meats, seafood and veggies. Cooking the food yourself takes some practice, and you don’t want to burn pricey Kobe beef, so stick with the more affordable but incredibly tender kalbi; don’t forget to add on the bacon-like pork jowl and buttery Japanese sweet potatoes.

“This is the best food experience you will ever have if you really love BBQ”
Reviewed April 15, 2015
This is the best food experience you will ever have if you really love BBQ, they have variety of choices with goodness of freshness. I have been there for 5 time in my last trip to Bangkok. Beef cuts are amazingly tender and tasty. Services and staff are very friendly. If I visit Bangkok definitely I will visit this place.

Gyutaro Japanese BBQ Restaurant @ 3rd Mile Square, Old Klang Road, Lama, Batu 3/12
58100 Kuala Lumpur
When it comes to Japanese food, you are less likely to go wrong with Yakiniku. So far, I have never had a bad meal Japanese BBQ meal in KL yet and touch wood, I hope I will never have one.
Usually, price is the only consideration when it comes to picking a yakiniku restaurant. Best of all, a meal can be simple, luxurious or in between depending on the breed, grade and cut of meat you pick. The main reason we came to Gyutaro is because it shares the same parent company as Kanichikan Yakiniku (KNK). KNK is our top favorite yakiniku restaurant in KL so that automatically makes Gyutaro a safe choice. And we are glad to be right. You can expect the same excellent quality of food and service here, except that at Gyutaro, the dining atmosphere is more casual.

Gyu-Kaku: Japanese BBQ Giant
The Japanese barbecue restaurant chain is huge, with 26 locations in the United States and Canada and more than 700 restaurants worldwide,
The restaurant features yakiniku dining, where you choose your proteins and veggies and grill them tableside on special barbecues. Think of an upscale version of the restaurant where Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson shared some beef in the modern classic Lost in Translation, and you've got the idea. The restaurant offers different "value meals" that include appetizers, proteins, and dessert. For instance, two people can opt for the "Geisha" ($60 for two), which includes edamame, steamed shrimp dumplings, Gyu-Kaku salad, miso soup, sukiyaki bibimbap for starters and then a platter of assorted vegetables and proteins including harami miso skirt steak, kalbi short rib tare, chicken basil, and premium rib eye. Dessert consists of not-so-Japanese s'mores. The "Kobe" dinner ($90 for two) includes appetizers and Kobe-style picaña,Kobe-style kalbi short rib, Kobe-style bistro hanger steak, Kobe-style rib eye, and vegetables, plus those s'mores.
