Trying out Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima

In Hiroshima the ultimate dining experience one can get is in this place called Okonomimura (Okonomi Village). It's a multi-story food building which is famous for serving the Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki. I had read about it, while I was planning my trip so it was a part of our Hiroshima day trip, we had decided to have our lunch in this place.

It's an experience dining here. There are live food counters where you sit and they prepare the Okonomiyaki in front of you on the iron griddle. I have certain food preferences, I told the chef and she made it for me exactly with the ingredients and the taste I desired for. It is fun watching them prepare it in front of you. Place is filled with tourist as it's quite an experience to get, which is not very common. The basic ingredients of the dish is noodles, which are of different types, then you make selection of meat, sea food, veggies whatever you want and let them know the blend of sauces and the level of spice required.

Most of the local people in restaurants struggle with English, but the place we sat at, the lady could understand little English, so it was easy for me to let her know my preferences. I wanted it with Egg, Cheese and Chicken and she made it for me accordingly.

The final Okonomiyaki prepared as per my preferences. I could finish it all.
