It’s X-MAS time!!!

Do you know what the Dutch prefer to eat at Christmas? And what are you cooking during the holidays? A typical Dutch starter recipe coming up.....but first this.

Gaining weight during winter is normal as the body knows it needs fuel (food) as a remedy against the cold. During the winter body and mind have a natural tendency to stay grounded which means you will automatically choose heavy food. Think of stews, spaghetti, lasagna and the typical Dutch dishes as “stamppot” and “erwtensoep”. The winter season is bugging our nervous system, bones and muscles, therefore it will try to store whatever you eat in order to nourish the tissues as much as it can. So….think of what you store!

The body needs sugar and fat but this doesn’t mean chocolate, white sugar, fast food, coca cola, etc. Instead try to choose sweet and fat food like banana’s, honey, fresh juice, etc.

Loosing weight will happen naturally from spring as this is when the body wants to get rid of its heaviness. The body does what nature is doing: “coming alive again”. Your body will be longing for a detox and detox is what you should give it. More about detoxing in March. For now just remember that gaining weight, 8 to 10 pounds during the winter is normal. Don’t get stressed, eat the right sweet and fat food and you will start loosing weight from March as your body won’t be longing for the heavy food anymore by that time. Nourish your body according natures laws and it will act accordingly. Good news hey?!

Therefore enjoy this typical Dutch starter: “Dutch Shrimp Cocktail”

75 grams “Hollandse garnalen” ( = Dutch Shrimps, these are the smallest pink-greyish shrimps you can get) per person, 1 lemon, mayonnaise, ketchup, whiskey, bread, fresh parsley, butter.

Mix 2 spoons of mayonnaise, 2 spoons of ketchup and ½ a spoon of whiskey per person. Rinse the shrimps, squeeze some lemon on top, mix the fresh lemon, fine chopped parsley and the shrimps. Put the shrimps in a glass, add the sauce and put little slices of lemon on top to decorate. Toast the bread. Serve the bread with “roomboter” (butter) and the shrimps.

Enjoy!

HAPPY X-MAS AND A HEALTHYLICIOUS NEW 2018!
