Most popular street foods in the Philippines
The Filipino people have a very big appetite in 'street foods' and it is very popular in any place here in the Philippines. Street food is a ready to eat food, that are being sold beside the street thru a food cart, booth or just carry in a basket or tray, it could be fried, grilled, baked and etc.. The locals and foreign eat street food for a few reasons, such as to satisfy their hunger and cravings, to save money from its reasonable price, to taste new delicacy, to challenge their self and for nostalgia.
Here are the list of some of the most popular street foods in the Philippines
Pork barbeque
This one is really tasty and one of my most favorite, it is a grilled marinated pork in a barbecue stick that cut into small pieces. The price is only $0.20 each stick and I'm sure that you will really enjoy eating it.
Isaw
It is made of chicken's or pig's intestines, don't worry, they washed it with a detergent before cooking it, I'm just kidding, of course they clean it thoroughly, because the taste will going to be worse if there are some necessary germs left.
Adidas or paa ng manok
It is just a grilled chicken feet in a barbecue stick, there is no place to waste any raw meat here in the Philippines, as long as it is audible and clean, then we can market it. The look is quite bizarre, but the taste is really good.
Fish ball
It is a machine processed food that is made from the raw fish, meat, the process of cooking is frying it, then add a sweet and chilly sauce upon serving. Its price is really cheap, you can buy 1 piece of it for only $0.02, imagine that your $1 can purchase a 50 pieces of it, that is so reasonable for its price and its taste.
Kwek Kwek
It is a fried quail egg coated in orange batter with just a simple flour for its added crispness.
Kalamares
This one is also my favorite, especially when it is soaked with spicy vinegar, it is a fried squid coated with a flour.
Mangga
An unripe green mango, cut into a strip or in a half, the best way to eat it is to dip it in a bagoong alamang (tiny shrimp paste).
I am glad to invite you to come and taste the street foods from Philippine cuisine.
