When I was learning to cook dishes from around the world, I fell in love with sauerkraut and try to eat it at least once a quarter. This was perfect for dinner with some sausages.
Sauerkraut is actually really cheap in the Netherlands! We call it 'zuurkool' and usually eat it in a patato mash with sausage or bacon. But it's also really nice just as a sauerkraut-patato mash without the meat. I like to add some pineapple chuncks to balance the sourness.
