The natural contributors to food production
It is amazing to know that Bees plays a unique and significant role both in the food industry and biodiversity as well. They are the greatest source of pollinating agents(cross pollination) in the food industry, horticulture etc. About 80% of pollination is done by Bees especially in horticultural crops, food crops, and to a lesser extend in oil palms. However, aside its role it is been cultivated(apiculture) for honey which further used as medicine, serves as income generation as well.

Despite its role, the bee population has been in recent times reduced greatly due mainly to the excessive use of chemicals by farmers on crops to maximize high yields and include; insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and this also affects our biodiversity.
Furthermore, this can be checked by introducing biological controls to check pests or insect infestations on our crops so as to minimize the dead toll of our natural pollinators thus striking a balance within our ecosystems.
It is thus high time we start taking bold steps to preserve our biodiversity because as it continue to degrade, a constant increase in hunger , temperatures, floods, insects and pests, etc.
