There are some really great descriptive writing in this story:

I could see the reflection of horror in my brother's eyes as he fumbled with shivering lips while pointing to something behind me.

and I really like the way you flipped the readers perceptions of the lizard men from monsters to wise, misunderstood people. Great stuff!
