(Game Review) NeverDead: When Eternity Becomes a Curse for Gamers - Action Game #1
Market penetration for a game with a wide spread genre is not an easy task. It takes more than just a great title or a captivating visualization to attract the attention of gamers. One of the best ways? By offering a new concept that is original, creative, and has never existed in other similar gaming games. This is what the new Konami - NeverDead third person shooter game series tries to offer. The uniqueness of this one game you will feel from the beginning of the game. As one of the third person-shooter games that quite anticipated by gamers, Konami is preparing NeverDead as a different action game. Although in general, the gameplay mechanisms offered the same as other games of the same genre, Konami injected something extreme to the main character in this game. Have you tested the cheatcode that allows the main character to keep on living? Trying God-Mode wherever possible? What if this "cheating" turned out to be the main force of a game? Believe it or not, this is what NeverDead has to offer. In accordance with the title diusungnya, in NeverDead, you can never die.
Is it just a unique concept enough to present a quality that is loved by gamers? Or the "immortality" of the main character becomes a crucial weakness? What about the overall playing experience offered? All of these elements must be an interesting focus of interest for further investigation. In fact, NeverDead's response is not something to be proud of. In the region's weekly chart, this game is not able to put itself in the top 10 ranks. Something a bit awkward for a game born from Konami's cold hands. What makes the existence of this game seem to be missed? The NeverDead we play is the XBOX 360 version. Since there is no significant difference with the Playstation 3 version and to ensure easier content management for readers, we put it in a Playstation session.
Plot
Being a Demon Hunter is not an easy task. There are many iconic characters in the gaming industry that have proven that. Loss and suffering seems to be essential to defining the life of this inanimate work. In NeverDead, this responsibility falls on Bryce Boltzmann who has lived this hard life for the past 500 years. In the past, he became the first Demon Hunter to successfully confront one on one with Astaroth - the Devil King. But a tragedy makes Bryce's life no longer the same. Cypher's death changed Bryce's life forever. His encounter with Astaroth changed Bryce's life. This confrontation with the Devil-king was not as easy as he imagined it to be. The death of Cypher, his wife during this epic battle reversed the outcome of the battle directly. Cypher who is also a Medium, one who is able to materialize Satan into the real world does play a very important role in this fight. Without Cypher, Bryce would not be able to harm Astaroth at all. In the face of his heartbreaking defeat and death, Bryce must also face another more cruel tragedy. Astaroth made Bryce's body the same as that of the demons. Astaroth makes Bryce the eternal "human". 500 years later, not much has changed with the life of Bryce Boltzmann. In today's modern life, he still has to deal with hundreds of devils who are still trying to invade the world. But this time Bryce joins under a police force that is assigned to handle this problem. Together with her today is a beautiful lady who has become her loyal partner - Arcadia Maximille.
Their cooperation in eradicating Satan led them to a larger plot explanation. What causes all these demons to suddenly invade the earth just like that? After Cypher's death, Nikki is the only Medium present only on a 500-year scale. This hidden ability of Nikki became the most important asset for Bryce and Arcadia to conquer all existing demons. Unfortunately, the demons also put the same interest in this one figure. Why is Nikki so precious to the demons? What exactly are their goals? Could Bryce find the peace she had been wanting? The Main Character Who Can not Die
Just like other third person-shooter games, NeverDead also carries the same gameplay mechanism. Your goal largely involves simply destroying any existing enemy and leading to a predetermined objective. You will be equipped with two types of weapons: dual-gun and a sword. Dual-gun will be the most important asset to destroy big enemies that can not be defeated by melee attacks. While on the other hand, the sword becomes the most effective weapon to destroy every little enemy that exists. Is not melee attack also very risky to ourselves, where the enemy so much easier to attack? In NeverDead, you do not have to think about it at all. Konami did not name this game NeverDead for no apparent reason. As an "immortal" man, Bryce really can not die. Unlike other games that offer the tension of trying to survive a barrage of bullets or enemy attacks, in NeverDead, you can face it without fear of facing the game-over screen suddenly. The game can only end with at least three conditions: the lost head is kidnapped, falling from a height outside the level limit, and failing to make sure Arcadia is alive. Besides that? It can pass through a burning fire or touch high-voltage electricity without fear. This advantage can also be used to add a little "elemental damage" in melee attack with a sword. Not only that, Bryce's ability also allows you to move wherever you want. Falling from high places? Crashed wall ruins? Or even hit by a train? No problem. You just need to re-connect the body.

You might think this is a strange sub-heading. But believe it or not, this can be done by Bryce at NeverDead. Bryce was able to pull out his own hand or head for a particular interest. Each skill requires a certain amount of experience points to be used. But do not necessarily assume you can immediately feel the immediate benefits of every skill you buy. Why? Because Bryce has limited slot skills. You must determine which skills are most needed and organize the rest. Although dual-guns are necessary to fight the big bosses, the role of the sword still remains more crucial! Destroying a common enemy with a sword? It will be more effective. I personally recommend you to focus more on strengthening melee attacks than dual-gun. Why? Because melee attacks are more effective at destroying any existing enemy because of their large damages, without the need to deal with the complexity of the limited number of bullets. Dual-guns that are not upgraded are still effective against big enemies and who really need to be hit with bullets. Other benefits? The absence of damage system and Bryce who can not die makes the risk to use melee attacks can be nullified. You stay close to enemy bands and attack blindly.
Destroying the Environment is Important! The destroyed environment will give extra damage to the enemies surrounding it. The more that is destroyed, the better. This concept seems to be attached to the game industry. A game capable of presenting an environment that can be destroyed through action interaction does promise a more epic battle experience. Most action games do show this excessively, but more for cosmetic purposes only. Destruction is synonymous with a tighter adrenaline pump. In NeverDead? The environment will be an important aspect of winning the battle. Bryce will often face enemies in large numbers and is difficult to destroy just by using brute force. In addition, you will often find enemies with enormous amounts of HP. Therefore, the best way to end the battle quickly is to maximize the environment. Instead of direct fighting, greater damage can be achieved by utilizing the crushed area and the resulting debris. Destroying the foundation, blowing up walls, knocking down the roof, and dropping debris will be much more effective. Again, you need not fear Bryce will die of it.
Immortality of Main People Never Dead
Most of the gamers must have tested God-mode or cheat-code for all the games that ever offer that mode. Fighting without having to be afraid of the consequences of death would be an appeal that is hard to resist. But apply it as the main feature of a game? Interesting? This is certainly the most serious question. Is the original concept offered by NeverDead is able to offer something different and interesting than other third person shooter game? You will feel enchanted at the beginning and laugh a lot, but ultimately? More frustration and boredom. Fighting blindly also does not produce any negative consequences. Admittedly, the death and threat of game-over in a game is one of the motivations that make a gamer challenged. Strategies to survive and move as effectively as possible also result in a consistently pumped adrenaline. But what happens if this most essential value is drastically reduced? This is what might happen when you play NeverDead. You just have to come face the enemy with the most brutal style without having to face any consequences. As a result? You will feel the emptiness of the real essence of gameplay. There is no strong sense of challenge there. A mutilated body and a chance to recombine the body again are indeed interesting at the beginning. But slowly but surely you will feel the frustration because of it. Instead of a devil-shaped "man", Bryce is more impressed as a man built of less than mature agar. He has a body that is so fragile and soft. All the parts of his body felt so easy to break and break, though only because of a small insignificant insignificant attack. As a result? You'll be busier to combine your body back than fighting up to a high level of epicness. Being immortal is not always fun.
Conclusion
The concept that Konami brought to NeverDead must be admittedly unique and original. He became the first third person shooter game to have a timeless main character who really can not die. The plot of immortality that has been carried by other games has more to do as cosmetics in the story, while NeverDead actually applies it to the actual gameplay mechanism. Is this gameplay mechanism perfect? The adoption of a mutilated body is funny at first, but potentially frustrating at the end. Bryce's body that was built too fragile just feels like jelly. A small attack alone can knock out all his body. The two things that make NeverDead so fascinating lie in two pretty simple elements: music and environmental interactions that produce a destructive battle make this game look better. From these two elements the atmosphere of the epic battle feels so thick. But unfortunately, this is not accompanied by the ability to present a strong sense of challenge. The decision to bring Bryce that can not die leads to the consequences that could have a negative impact on the essence of real video games. Despite all the shortcomings he has, NeverDead is still able to prove himself as one of the third person shooter game worthy to be tested. Although it does not offer exceptional quality, yet the concept of eternal life, as first in its genre, remains interesting to try.
