I kept going on "Grounded" but only in a messing about sort of way

in #gaming2 days ago

Due to a lack of anything else to play that I am interested in, I have continued to play Grounded even though I did previously say that I was unlikely to continue doing so. Parts of it are entertaining even though I am still kind of pissed about the fact that there are these roaming enemies that you are not meant to be able to defeat and will almost certainly end you if you decide to not run away from them. Even if you do run away they chase you for a pretty long time and unless there are some people out there that know something I don't know, it will result in failure even if you block and evade as much as you can.

Even though I have kind of abandoned the main story because I don't really know where the hell I am supposed to go, I have been enjoying just running around the main start area and building a base even though I kind of feel like I have chosen a poor location for my base just in the first starting area near one of the tents where you can analyze equipment and upgrade stuff.

Exploration is kind of fun in this game and if you want, you can just start to stockpile things in your base area and not really concern yourself with the main quest. In some regard I think this is kind of fun in the way that SIMS or any other building game is.

I suppose the place that I have chosen to have my base isn't a bad location because the area is the "starter area" and therefore there are very few enemies around and none of them are "aggro" meaning that they will not attack you unless you attack them first. There are none of the giant spiders that are definitely going to kill you in the area.

I have read that the area near the baseball is an even better location for a base because it has more flat ground but whatever man! I am not going to relocate all that I have already built just to move to the other side of a ridge.

There are a lot of various things that you can use around your base such as doors and various defenses but I imagine I will worry about that later because as it is now, I don't have anything attacking me but much of this probably is because I have chosen to play the game on the easy setting. What can I say? I am not a hardcore gamer.

It can be a bit overwhelming all the things that you can create in the build menu, and to me this all kind of seems like a game that would be better played with a mouse and keyboard because there are so many options.

When i see some of the bases that others have built on Reddit I am a bit jealous I guess but mostly I have an attitude of "I'm definitely not going to put in the time to make that happen." My base is just a hodgepodge of disorganized crap all over the place and I guess that is just the way it is going to be.

There are a ton of things that I have not yet crafted and some of the ingredients that these recipes call for involved insects that I don't think I have ever seen before.

As you would expect the stuff you build is quite simple to accomplish early on but as time goes by things get to be a lot more complicated and the ingredients can be quite difficult to find or they involve killing more difficult enemy bugs, one of the main ones being those damn spider that I can only get a few hits on before they end my life.

Dying isn't that big of a deal unless you are carrying a ton of crap in your bag because other than your main tools, you lose everything that was in your possession when you get killed. This can be really annoying if you die really far from your respawn point. The game does give you the option of saving basically anytime that you want to so especially if you are going up to climb something that results in insta-death upon falling, you should probably be saving on a regular basis.

The game only lets you have 10 save games per run, but honestly you don't really need more than 1 since you are simply saving as a checkpoint and not as some sort of position that you are not sure what to do going forward. I don't think this game is terribly complicated and for the time being anyway I am enjoying just wandering around and filling up my chests with more and more crafting materials. I don't yet even know if any of this stuff that I am picking up is important or not, but it isn't that much of a chore to do it unless the items end up falling into dirty water. That can be a pain because drinking dirty water results in bad things happening to you.

This brings me to another point. If you can, locate a drink box or a soda can in the yard nearby your base.

These boxes will drop drinkable water that is enhanced and give you certain buffs even better than the dewdrop water. I find the hydration aspect of the game to be annoying but it can be circumvented by being near one of these that you just visit every now and then. You can store a bit of it as well if you have a canteen and that is something that I will get organized later on today.

This game is fun and not too demanding. I think this is something that you can pop in and out of and perhaps that is a good one for a casual player like myself to have in his library.

Thus far I have around 5 hours logged. I'm not really understanding the main story and I have encountered a poison gas area of the map that I cannot yet get past. I'll just wander around and kill random things until I can figure out what the hell that is all about.
