Back in the garden preparing the garden for the wet autumnal weather.
Back home for over a week now and the early august episode of Bunty's Blog gives lots of tips for the garden at this time of year.
I have been topping my potatoes so as soon as I saw any dying leaves it is time to act.
Cut the tops off close to the ground but you do have to be careful not to accidentally pull a plant out of the ground, if you do just use those spuds and any that are already on the surface.
Your not going to gain much growth in the size of potatoes so it is better to reduce the chance of blighted spuds, they're big enough already!!
Once the area is cleared rather than earthing up I add a layer of manure.
This protects the surface potatoes from the weather and generally insulates the ground for when the cold weather hits. So all winter until March/April these potatoes will store happily in the ground and as we dig them up the manure will get turned into the soil fertilizing this area as we harvest.
One big tip is to try and be as thorough as you can when digging the potatoes out of the ground. If you leave even a tiny little potato next spring it will sprout and create a young potato plant in an area which will have a different crop next year due to the rotation of the garden.
This week most evenings I've been editing more Windsurfing.tv content. This time the second part of the story from the first event in Pozo, Gran Canaria.
In this film there is a section where I was interviewing the guys challenging for the podium places and whilst we were talking the results came in, I love the reaction, the mutual respect to each other and then a little jig for joy from the winner of that heat Marcilio Browne. Now I'm working on the next film a similar style edit all about the story of the PWA Freestyle in Fuerteventura.
