RE: Homegrown ginger - the plant - how to grow them

in #gardening6 years ago

Such a helpful post! Your plant is looking good! Ginger is also expensive here in South Africa but we, sadly don't have the option of buying organic from the health store so I've just bought from the supermarket. I get them to an inch or two green stem and then they die. I suspect it's the pH (maybe assisted by our free ranging chickens) but I'm going to try again this Spring. Have you grown tumeric? The actual root is finally in SA so I'm nursing a couple to plant in a month or two. So excited! Did you know you get a ginger bush and a plant. Apparently the bush/shrub is mild and I guess you use the leaves. But mine is currently in bloom

Oh no, i havent grown tumeric but i will certainly look into it ! I take tumeric capsules daily to help with my chronic pain, so growing my own would be amazing!
Wow thats a beautiful picture!

Sorry to hear that you have chronic pain. But tumeric is an incredible natural anti-inflammatory. I make golden paste which we take as needed. I often use it for my animals. They are wonderful little patients!

Yeah adding tumeric to my daily vitamins made a big difference! Oh i never thought to use it for the animals
