16 AND I WILL PRAY THE FATHER, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
17 THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, WHOM THE WORLD CANNOT RECEIVE, BECAUSE IT NEITHER SEES HIM NOR KNOWS HIM; BUT YOU KNOW HIM, FOR HE DWELLS WITH YOU AND WILL BE IN YOU."
John 14:16–17 (NKJV)

The Person of the Holy Spirit
• The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He is the third person in the order of Godhead (Colossians 2:9).
• The Holy Spirit manifests in the form of fire (Acts 2:3,4), wind (Acts 2:2), and was likened to water (John 4:14; 7:37-39).
• The Holy Spirit manifested in the image of Dove whilst Jesus was being baptized in the river Jordan, which symbolizes quietness and gentleness—His attributes (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32).
• The Holy Spirit is quiet and gentle but powerful. He is our Comforter or Helper (John 14:16).
• The Holy Spirit resides on the inside of a believer, someone who is born-again (John 3:6). Those who personally invited Him to come and dwell with them build intimacy with God through Him (Acts 1:4,5; Revelation 3:20).
• The Holy Spirit is the believers' Helper or Comforter and the Lifter of our heads (John 14:16).

Your relationship with the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is believers' Senior partner (Jude 20). Your fellowship or communion with God is via the Holy Spirit and It should be worked upon to be made strong (1 Corinthians 14:2).
A believer would be able to walk and fellowship with God effectively through the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:2).
You would have to build and develop talking and hearing, that is, conversing with God through the Holy Spirit—for guidance and direction in life (Romans 8:14). You initiate a discussion by asking on things of interest from the Holy Spirit and listen to your spirit for a reply. In some instances, people would say you should listen to your gut, but what is being referred to as the gut is the person's human spirit.
You should also know that what is being shared here, about having a rapport with the Holy Spirit, is built over a period of time, with consistency.
You, at times, might miss it in hearing right or clearly, or getting whatever the message is; however, with consistency on your part, you would be able to know the right message that proceeded from the Holy Spirit on the inside of you.

Note: the psychologists talk about subconscious mind, but there is nothing like that! What is being called or referred to as a subconscious mind is the human spirit of the person. It is because the psychologists could only understand the soul and the body of a human, they lack the knowledge or the knowing of the human spirit. The Bible never divided a human to two part but three. The Bible talks of the spirit, the soul and the body of a human (1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12). The spirit and the soul of a human is never put together, or said to be one, by the Bible; the two are separate, they are two different distinct entities (Hebrews 4:12).

God through the Holy Spirit speaks via, by means of, your thoughts, as well as the devil. The message from the devil is injected from the outside of you, but you might mistakenly think that what you are having as a thought emanated from the inside of you—believing it was your personal thought.
In other words, a thought from the Holy Spirit comes from your within, on the inside of you, whilst that of the devil is from the outside.

The Holy Spirit resides in the recreated human spirit of a believer, someone who is born-again.
When a message is given to the Holy Spirit by God (John 16:13-15), such a message would be relayed to the recreated human spirit of the believer and afterwards be passed to the mind of the person.
However, a message from the devil is sent from the outside of the body through a demon to the mind of the person, believer or non-believer alike (Ephesians 2:1-3).
If your mind is not always or constantly renewed with the Word of God as a believer, it would be congested with the affairs of life, be preoccupied with dirty things of the world (Romans 12:2). A believer with such a mind, a congested or dirty mind, would definitely find it difficult to be able to discern or differentiate a message that comes from God through the Holy Spirit on the inside of him, and the message that comes from the outside, through the devil or a demon. Such a believer would be undiscerning and not be able to know when a message is sent from God via the Holy Spirit on the inside of him.

God through the Holy Spirit is speaking but any number of believers are not hearing Him, what He is saying or the messages He is passing across to them.
The reason being that their minds are preoccupied with the cares of this world.
You as a believer would have to guard your mind, it is the centre of life, the place where the battles of life are fought and decisions of life are made: "GUARD YOUR HEART ABOVE ALL ELSE, FOR IT DETERMINES THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFE" (Proverbs 4:23 NLT).

"BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU THINK [Above all that you guard, protect your heart], BECAUSE YOUR THOUGHTS RUN YOUR LIFE [life flows from it]."
Proverbs 4:23 (Expanded Bible)

"BE VERY CAREFUL TO KEEP YOUR MIND SAFE. THE THOUGHTS THAT YOU THINK MAKE YOU THE PERSON THAT YOU ARE."
Proverbs 4:23 (EasyEnglish Bible)

"ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE, GUARD YOUR HEART; FOR IT IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE'S CONSEQUENCES."
Proverbs 4:22-24 (Complete Jewish Bible)

Whoever fails in his or her mind would fail in life, and If you win in your mind, you would eventually win in life.
Submit your mind to God, let it be filled or preoccupied with the Word of God, and things that are edifying (Romans 12:2).
Peace!
