Russian Geologies Have Found Jackpot: Giant Emerald Dug Out in Ural Mine
Geologists in the Malishevskaya mine in the Sverdlovsk region on the Urals found an emerald weighing 1.6 kilograms, making it the largest emerald ever excavated in that mine.
"The crystal was spotted and scooped to the surface and preserved in its original condition. The emerald is weighing 1.6 kilograms, 14 inches long and seven centimeters wide, it is estimated to be of secondary quality because it is not transparent and its color is light green "The Rostek corporation said in a statement.
Giant gemstone still has no name.
Until now, the emerald of 1.2 kilograms dug at the beginning of the nineties, was considered the largest. It is named "President" in honor of Russia's first president, Boris Yeltsin, and is estimated at $ 1.2 million.
