Bible spiritual law: Whoever does good has a reward; each receives according to their deeds. Ben Sira 16:14
The sapiential books in the Bible, such as the Book of Ben Sira, Proverbs, Wisdom, and Ecclesiastes, have something particular that differentiates them from the books of the Pentateuch, and this is the teaching of the ethical laws that govern the universe. And the existence of these ethical laws brings with them things that must be taken into account in the spiritual realm. Men, no matter how powerful they are, are not exempt from the effects of these spiritual laws, and whoever ignores them is destined to fail due to the stumbling stones. This is why instruction and spiritual education are so necessary, and heresies (the teaching of the error) must be avoided.
This is the explanation of why Master Ben Sira, in his wisdom, wrote an expression of the law of sowing and reaping, a cosmic law of balance, learning, and retribution, with these words: "Whoever does good has a reward; each receives according to their deeds" Ben Sira 16:14. There are other expressions of this famous law in the Bible: "They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind" Hosea 8:7, "Whoever sows injustice reaps calamity, and the rod they wield in fury will be broken" Proverbs 22:8. These cosmic and eternal laws are warnings that cannot be ignored.
And this is where wisdom and the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) come into play, when it is understood that these laws have progressive effects, and that in the long run these effects escape any rational calculation. Wisdom is the science that teaches men to live in harmony with the laws of the universe, and with the very origin of everything, God's plan for all creation. Ultimately, wisdom teaches men to efficiently manage the positive and negative effects produced by these laws, because there is a reality: men naturally desire to be happy and blessed, and for this, science is necessary for living.
This teaching of the master Ben Sira is a reminder of the need to do good while avoiding evil, and regardless of a judgment or divine punishment in the afterlife, men receive in this life the result of their successes and failures.
