John Wick Chronicles gameplay is heavily focused on firearms and gunplay. Wave after wave enemies will relentlessly attack you and your goal is to separate souls from bodies left and right. As usual, headshots are the most effective way and they provide most points. Game is fun but short. On the other hand it provides a good platform for training and that's what we will be focusing on today.

I'm a firearms enthusiast, there's just no way around it, I like guns and bullets and that's just me. I wanted to see how my military background and competitive shooting experience affect my performance in VR.

In this video I set the current World leaderboard record in John Wick VR's realistic pistol range simulation. I'm using a legitimate plate carrier armor and infantry combat gear weighing around 13 kilograms just to bring the experience a tad closer to the real thing.

I dare you to break it, I'm competitive by nature.

Real range/virtual range - same fundamentals apply for both. There are differences of course, like recoil, but training in one environment supports the other. Virtual Reality is still really underutilized in training applications, I really hope this will change rapidly.

Tips for increasing your accuracy and speed:

  1. Speed is important, but hitting the target is essential. Focus on accuracy first, look the devil in the eye. Add speed when you have learned to take your time.
  2. Grip plays a huge role Competitive pistol shooters of the very highest level might say it's 80-90% of the whole performance. HTC Vive controllers are a bit different from handguns. Find a grip that works for you.
  3. Find a balanced stance. Always shoot from the same stance that suits your body and style.
  4. Don't lose your composure if you miss. Use more time to aim at distant targets, be quick with targets that are close.
  5. Squeeeeeeeeze the Vive trigger, don't pull it. Pulling causes you to miss.
