The seven habits of highly effective people : A wonderful book that could change your life
I will be doing a series of posts on Stephen Covey wonderful book, THE SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE. This is one of the best book i have ever read . it drawn from Stephen Covey research on successful people for the last 200 years ago and i highly recommend it.
The book is for everybody not only a career person or a business man but for everyone including : students; parents or anyone willing to be effective in this life. In this first posts i will be introducing the book and present an overview of the habits.
As Stephen Covey highlighted in his wonderful book , life is more complex, more stressful, more demanding today. We have transitioned from the industrial age into the information/ knowledge Worker age - with all of profound consequences. we face challenges and problems in our personal lives, our families, and our organizations unimagined even one or two decades ago.
He illustrated a principle based approach to solving our problems instead of the common practices and thinking of our popular culture. He illustrated this principle based approach in contrast with a few of the most common human challenges we face today.
Fear and insecurity
With so many people gripped in fear. They fear for the future; fear of the unknown; fear of losing their jobs and fear of not being able to provide for their families.This vulnerability often fosters a resignation to riskless living and to co-dependecy with others at work and at home. Our culture's common response to this problem is to become more and more independent. 'im going to focus on 'me and mine'. ill do my job, do it well, and get to my real joys off the job'.
Steven Covey present in his book that we live in an interdependent reality and our most important accomplishments require interdependent skills well beyond our present abilities.
He also present so other problems facing the world today including :
- I want it now
- Blame and victimism
- Hopelessness
- Lack of life balance
- What's in it for me
- The hunger to be understood
- Conflict and Differences
- Personal Stagnation.
In the next few days or weeks, we will be presenting the various habits and how to engage with them to live an effective live. Though i highly recommend people to actually buy the book even though i will be doing an intensive explanation of the habits.
