The Mouth, a Gate-way to the Stomach (Episode 1)
There are so many Gate-ways to the stomach but the MOUTH happens to be a major Gate-way to the Stomach yet people tend to neglect that by not properly taking very good care of it.
Plaques and Calculus are the two major enemies to the mouth.
Dental plaque is a biofilm or mass of bacteria that grows on surfaces within the mouth. It is a sticky colorless deposit at first, but when it forms tartar, it is often brown or pale yellow. It is commonly found between the teeth, on the front of teeth, behind teeth, on chewing surfaces, along the gumline, or below the gumline cervical margins (Wikipedia).
Calculus or tartar is a form of hardened dental plaque. It is caused by precipitation of minerals from saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in plaque on the teeth.
Both Dental Plaque and Calculus are seen in every mouth as far as one feeds. They aid Tooth decay, Halitosis, tooth drifting, Tooth mobility, Tooth fracture etc; that is while as a Dentist, we advise our patients to visit any Dental clinic every six (6) months for regular dental check up.
