My monthly stats for "steps"

in #health20 hours ago

First off, for anyone that is keeping track, I want to let you know that my rice box for the smartwatch appears to have worked but I am going to leave it in there for another day just to make sure.

I was already resigned to thinking that I needed to get another one so this was pretty fantastic news.

But while it is in the box o' rice I decided to glance over my stats that it has been maintaining for a very long time and I stumbled upon some interesting stat collection that includes monthly and weekly stats on how much exercise you have been doing.

I didn't really factor in that this thing is tracking my steps even when I don't hit record but it was kind of nice to see that I am actually doing a pretty decent job of staying somewhat active in my movement, even on days where I don't go for a run.

The total amount of steps is pretty high, or so I think.

This is including all the steps I have taken in total though, not just the ones that I do on runs. There might be a little bit of cheating in there because sometimes when I go cycling I get back and notice that it has attributed a couple thousand steps to the ride even though I didn't really take any steps. Perhaps it converts the exerted effort into an equivalent amount of steps or something, that would be kind of neat if it did that because a lot of people have this sort of step goal for the day.

The good news for me is that a lot of these programs tend to focus on a person needing to get 10,000 steps in a day for weight loss or for overall physical fitness and I have surpassed that by 1100. Nice!

I do have a bit of an accidental advantage over most people in USA or perhaps the world because I live in Chicago and in the city people tend to not drive anywhere. I walk a lot and take public transport. I don't really even know very many people that so much as have a car because there is nowhere to park it.

I don't miss having a car though because it takes something crazy like more than an hour simply to get away from the crazy Chicago traffic and have an open road in front of you. Even once you accomplish that there really isn't anywhere nearby to go to anyway. There isn't a real city of note for a hundred miles or so.

Anyway, I was kind of happy to see that this data collection is in there. Maybe you have it on your app as well?
