A lot more people these days are distilling water for many reasons including safety. The debate on which water is better for you from Spring water, distilled water, hard water or even rain water rages on. This is in no way a post of all the different types of water and/or solutions for your needs. The general rule of thumb in water health and safety is boil and filter. However with a little more research of the types of water in your area and some basic precautions you will be well on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

DISTILLING WATER
Once you learn how to distill water you are much better off in any situation. However distilling water takes the water to its most basic form and will lack the much needed minerals you need in your diet and for overall good health. There are many ways to supplement this. Eating fruits and vegetables with high mineral content is one. Taking a liquid mineral supplement or vitamin and mineral pill or you can use pink Himalayan salt which has on average anywhere from 84 to 88 different trace minerals in it naturally. Be sure to buy this from a reputable salt dealer or store that gets true pink Himalayan salt. There are a lot of companies that color their salt pink and try to pass it off as the original.

WATER SAFETY
Overall the best first solution is testing your water if possible. This gives you a general idea of the type of water and amount of contaminants you are dealing with. Most regions have a water testing facility in their area. If that is not available, the water can be shipped off to be tested. Research a testing facility nearest you for testing.

TREATMENT SOLUTIONS
This will vary according to what you are faced with. As I said earlier there are many factors that determine healthy drinking water. Keep it simple but be aware that it may still be best to boil and filter. There are water purification tablets that can be used in a short term situation (Hiking, camping or just being lost) but overall this method is NOT a long term solution and says so on many packages. A more long term solution that is safe would be to use Colloidal Silver. Adding Colloidal silver to your water will kill off bacteria and make the water safe to drink. Be sure to do your research on Colloidal Silver and buy it from a reputable company. Better yet it can be made yourself using a professional Colloidal / Ionic Silver generator. As a side note, dairy farmers used to throw a silver coin in their milk buckets while milking the cows to kill any bacteria that may occur. This helped the milk to last much longer than normal. Sometimes the old ways are just the best ways.

FILTERING WATER
There are many ways to filter water. The most simple way that doesn't involve a whole house system are commercial water filter systems like a Berkey or perhaps a ceramic filter that can be used in a homemade 2 five gallon bucket system.

Don't be fooled into thinking you need to buy the biggest and best water purification and filtering systems out there. Some basic steps and know how will get you through. The method of using a 2 five gallon bucket system is what I chose to do myself. It is only for my wife and myself but if you have a larger family you can expand your system to fit your needs. The ceramic bowl shaped filters are silver impregnated to help kill off any germs and for the most part are pretty reasonable in price. Stock some up! Also be sure to get activated charcoal to help purify your water. I buy this by the bag and make my own pre filter system with layers of sand and activated charcoal. If distilling your own water be sure to add liquid minerals to it or take some form of mineral supplement or add pink Himalayan salt to your diet. Take the time to do a little research on this subject. Without clean fresh water your family may not survive for very long in a disaster situation. This is one subject worth exploring!
Here are the filters I bought from Ebay just in case you wanted to find a good filter set. I bought the pack of 3 but this guy also sells singles.

I believe that every country is different and I'm in agreement with doing your research. Here in Costa Rica you are far better drinking rain water than water sitting in the soil because many bacterias. Also I remember when my dad was teaching me hiking and camping lessons, he said water that is flowing is better but you will always need to boil it. @OriginalWorks thanks for sharing this post.

Thanks, yes moving water always a good choice over still. Boiling is the best practice. Even rain water can have bacteria and contaminants in it anymore. Thanks for your comment!

Thank you for sharing this information.

You could go as far as boiling the water under pressure to get temperatures higher.

Tomorrow will make eleven months ago that I was attacked by a pit bull (Please let us NOT get into dog discussion here; okay?). Even though my index finger has mostly healed, the internal scarring takes continual self-therapy. The nasty wound above my right ankle ended up with complications.

I went to a holistic doctor. There is not a remote comparison with monopolistic "medicine." He had me use Panasilver; citing that colloidal silver was too big of particles. Do your research on Panasilver. All I can say is that it works. Now, he recommended herbs and enzymes also. So, the Panasilver was part of an overall program that he recommended for me.

Yes i'm not surprised he recommended Silver. Never heard of Panasilver but I will check it out. Yes a lot of Silver can have huge particles in it and can do more harm than good if not made correctly. I chose to buy a professional Silver Lungs system and I even nebulize it for my lungs and sinuses. I don't get colds or flu anymore. I also use it on cuts or any other open wounds. My dogs also have it too! Thanks for your input! :)

My husband and I traveled for a year in our VW van using a Berkey water filter the whole time filling from streams. One of the best purchases we ever made. Still using it today ( :

Yes they are good. Berkey did have issues early on with the filters delaminating but they addressed that issue. I know people that just buy the filters and used five gallon buckets to save money and have more water storage. I use the half moon shaped ones that are silver impregnated. I found a site on Ebay that sells a kit with 3 filters, covers and scrubbing pads for around 80 Bucks. Not sure how long they last yet. Have to replace them when the ceramic wears down. Still on the first one for the past year but that's because we pre filter the water first. Thanks for your comment!

I'd never seen that half moon one before your post, I'll have to take a look. Definitely thought about doing the 5 gallon bucket way but I've never liked the taste of plastic on my water. Glass would be my material of choice... plus then we wouldn't have to always be checking how much water we've got! ( :

I just checked where I bought mine and they have really gone down in price. Here is a link to Emergency H20 on Ebay where I purchased what I have. Hope this helps!

Thank you sir! That's awesome! :)

NP buddy!!!

I love me a good water or bushcraft post as a fluoride activist

I have my last book up for giveaway. Foxfire #1. This is the last one if you are interested in joining in. :) I may start making some leather products to give away in the near future. What do you think of that? Is that a good idea? What tags would be best for that. Bushcraft, Homesteading and what else?
Be sure to get in on this last book. Later man!

What you said along with offgrid and selfreliance

Those are what I have used, all of them.

They are not "trending" tags of course LOL

Of course. That's ok though. :) Thank you for your input on that. That's a big help!

Ok I just wanted you to know that I am running a contest / giveaway for a Yukon Outfitters double hammock a $79.99 value. This is just a general interest post. If I get enough interest, the contest will run in 7 days. More items and giveaways in the near future. Just a heads up so spread the word brother! Thanks! Just posted the general interest posting.

Heading out now, will leave this up and check it later man, thanks!

Cool thanks man. I'm hoping it gets more exposure so I can cover shipping and perhaps help to pay some towards my cost on the hammock. I would love to keep doing this for people but I have to figure my costs. Not going to do giveaways when only 3 people enter and I lose the hammock cost plus shipping. Sad I can't get more people involved but this may come to an end for now or at least until I get more loyal followers.

I took a major loss on one of my books. The book cost lost and the shipping cost which I payed was $31.00 to Canada. Crazy! But I offered the game and did a fair drawing so! lol

Leather is a good GAW for sure, also. I told someone about your stuff this last week myself.

There are days you are just sick of sticking the Altoid tin in your pocket even with a Ranger band around it you know

lol

Yes for sure. Ranger band helps but nice having a holder. I need to make some more. I have some Multi tool holsters to make this week. Maybe i'll do some more Altoids tin holders next. Thanks for the share and referral. You are the best man!
