I am inspired to write this post about the benefits of Turmeric because of my sister, Yasmin! I love her very much and encourage all my siblings to always become a better version of themselves everyday whether it be through physical, emotional, and spiritual work! My sister recently told me about how she suffers less menstrual cycle pain by merely switching her diet around and incorporating a miracle herb daily into her life!

Brief History of Turmeric

This miracle medicine is called Turmeric! I personally rarely use Turmeric but I have heard and read about how magical this root is! Very ancient medicine, Turmeric has been used for about 4000 years. In Vedic Indian culture,

Turmeric is used as a culinary spice and even has some religious significance. The spread of  Turmeric reached China, West Africa, East Africa, And Jamaica in the 18th century.

In Southeast Asia, Turmeric's amazing yellow color  is used in religious ceremonies. Because of this, Turmeric's nickname is "Indian Saffron."  Natural and Folk medicine has relied on Turmeric's healing benefits for centuries.... It is funny how modern medicine is finally realizing the benefits of Turmeric now.

Composition of Turmeric

This medicine has over 100 components. The main component of this root medicine is an oil containing turmerone, and another popular component called curcumin. These components are natural antioxidants. A nutritional analysis of Turmeric shows that 100 g of Turmeric contains 390 calories, 10 g total fat, 3 g saturated fat, 0.2 g calcium, 0.26 g phosphorous, 10 mg of sodium, 25oo mg potassium, 47.5 mg iron, 0.9 mg thiamine, 0.19 mg riboflavin, 4.8 mg niacin, 50 mg ascorbic acid, 69.9 g total carbohydrates, 21 g of dietary fiber, 3 g sugar,  and 8 g of protein! (this is a scientific analysis, I found it here on this website: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK92752/)

Over the 100 amazing components that Turmeric has, Curcuminoids are the most popular and well known antioxidants that gives Turmeric's rise to fame. One curcuminoid in particular is Curcumin! Curcumin is said to halt an enzyme that may be responsible for turning toxic environmental factors into carcinogens in the body. Curcumin supplements and Turmeric extracts can now be purchased in stores and herbal stores for a more concentrated antioxidant dose.
