Freedomunited.org has started a petition initiative asking the world governments to enact new laws to stop forced organ harvesting and organ trafficking in addition to the countries who have already passed legislation - South Korea, Belgium, Norway, Italy, Taiwan, Spain, and Israel - and Canada & UK who have new legislative proposals.

Kindly sign the petition and support this initiative: https://www.freedomunited.org/advocate/forced-organ-harvesting/

Freedom United has sent the following email to all its supporters to join their petition initiative:

"Did you know organs are being forcibly harvested from human beings?

It is shocking, but human trafficking for the purpose of organ removal and organ trafficking persists around the world, with primary victims being political prisoners and ethnic and religious minorities in authoritarian states."

Alarmingly, globally only seven countries have passed legislation to combat these horrific crimes. Today, demand more countries follow suit to stop forced organ harvesting and organ trafficking once and for all.

Forced organ harvesting and organ trafficking are related crimes where organs are taken from victims through coercion or without informed consent and sold illegally, often making their way into the organ tourism transplant market. This means unknowing tourists undergoing organ transplants abroad are at-risk of receiving organs linked to forced organ harvesting.

For example, in China government crackdowns and mass detention of minorities – namely political dissidents, ethnic Uyghurs, and Falun Gong (Buddhist Qi Gong) practitioners — are known to be tied to forced organ harvesting, with prisoners killed or operated on against their will for their precious organs.

An international people's tribunal in London recently found that “Forced organ harvesting has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale,” calling the crimes “of unmatched wickedness.”

China admitted that it has harvested organs from prisoners, yet claimed it would phase out the practice. We have strong reason to believe otherwise; an analysis of China’s organ donation system revealed “highly compelling evidence [the numbers] are being falsified” and that tracking the sources of organs in the country remains difficult. Despite evidence of forced organ harvesting, tourists are still going abroad to seek organ transplants where the source is unknown or potentially linked to egregious human rights abuses. In fact, research suggests that 28% of organ transplants in China go to foreigners.

Now, Canada and the UK are tabling new legislation that would criminalize the practice of receiving an organ transplant where informed consent was not given or recklessly obtained, calling for harsh punishments for offenders.

We support these efforts yet want to see more countries follow their lead. Join us in pushing countries around the globe to step up and tackle the often-overlooked crimes of human trafficking for the purpose of organ removal and organ trafficking.

Even though forced organ harvesting may not be happening in your country, the prevalence of organ transplant tourism to trafficking hotspots demonstrates the need for strong domestic legislation to prevent citizens from engaging in crimes abroad.

Organ transplants can save lives, but organs must be donated voluntarily and with complete transparency – forced harvesting is not the solution to meet these desperate needs. Unfortunately, that is not the reality for many countries where organ trafficking occurs. Countries around the world must take action to end organ transplant ‘tourism’ at the expense of victims.

By adding your name today to help end forced organ harvesting, you can put pressure on your government to take action and push ahead with laws to prevent this disturbing crime."
