What is Bruxism

This is a teeth Ailment that occurs, when there is involuntary clenching, grinding and gnashing of teeth.

What are the consequences of bruxism?

Some of consequences of Bruxism includes the following.

  • Teeth damage
    It can lead to fractured and damaged teeth.

  • Tooth loss
    In worse scenarios, there will be loss of teeth.

  • Discomfort
    The victim usually feels discomfort as a result of headache and pain.

  • Joint pain
    The grinding and gnashing of teeth can cause strain on the muscles, which can cause Joint pain.

  • Inability to Sleep
    The Victim might also experience Sleep discomfort as a result of the grinding of teeth.

What are the causes of bruxism?

Some of the common causes of Bruxism includes the following

  • Stress
    When someone is overstressed, It can lead to bruxism as a coping mechanism.

  • Medications
    Constant taking of medications like Antidepressants, Antipsychotics can trigger bruxism.

  • Negative Lifestyle
    Negative lifestyle patterns like too much consumption of alcohol, Smoking and doing hard drugs can cause Bruxism.

  • Genetics
    It also runs in the lineage, an individual can suffer Bruxism if there is cases of it in the family.

  • Malocclusion
    Improper bite can cause grinding of teeth.

What is the treatment plan for a patient with bruxism?

Some of the common treatment of Bruxism includes the following.

  • Mouth Guards
    They're appliance made to fit in the upper or lower teeth. They act like a shield, to protect the teeth.

  • Botox Injections
    Botox Injections can equally be given inorder to weaken the Muscle so that teeth grinding can reduce.

  • Muscle Relaxants
    It can also be given to the Patient, inorder to reduce Jaw Muscle tension which can cause teeth grinding.

  • Dental Correction
    The Dentist can do Dental Correction to reshape the chewing surface of the Victim's teeth.

How can we avoid it?

  • Stress management
    As stress is one of the thing that triggers Bruxism, avoid breakouts and practice self care.

  • Sleep well
    Wear comfy wears, avoid taking alcohol or Caffeine before sleeping, it will help you to sleep well, as lack of sleep can trigger bruxism.

  • Avoid chewing gum
    Avoid chewing gum excessively, because it can cause strain on the Jaw Muscles.

  • Dental Checkups
    Always go for routine Dental Checkups, it will help to discover any abnormalities on time.

  • Avoid chewing hard edibles
    If you have Jaw pains, then avoid chewing hard edibles.

Hola @rossnenye, muy completo tu escrito.

Definitivamente, es necesario cuidar nuestra dentadura y hábitos para evitar el bruxismo.

Cuando nos cuidamos logramos obtener mejor calidad de vida, por ende el sufrimiento no aparecerá, cuando de dentadura se refiere. El control periódico dental es necesario y evitar lo que nos pueda llevar al bruxismo.
