Is self-medication safe?

The medicines used for various diseases of the body should be taken only after examination by professional doctors and as per their advice and in the prescribed quantity, otherwise these medicines can harm the body instead of benefiting it. That is why self-medication is not safe under any circumstances.

What kind of self-medication do you do?

Yes, sometimes I do self-medication, but only for the treatment of minor diseases, such as headache, body ache, cold, flu or to calm the allergies caused due to cold, heat and dust. In these minor diseases, I have no problem in taking any simple painkiller or anti-allergic medicine on my own. Because if I go to consult a doctor, he will charge me thousands of rupees as fee and prescribe the same medicines.

Do you experience any adverse effects of self-medication?

No, I have not had any adverse effect from self-medication till date, because I have used only those unrestricted medicines which can be bought from medical stores without any doctor's advice. But there are some categories of medicines which come under such restricted schedules, which cannot be bought without a doctor's prescription.

Tell some common disadvantages of self-medication.

Actually many people use medicines prescribed for others for their symptoms of similar diseases, whereas medicines are prescribed by the doctor only after considering the physical condition of each person, his medical history, his weight and various tests. Many people may have an allergy to the same medicine, or their body may refuse to accept that medicine.

And sometimes such allergies can be fatal. There are also some injections of which a very small quantity is first put into the body of the person, so that the acceptance of the medicine in the body is known. And if the body accepts that medicine, then only the full dose is given. For the same disease, different people are prescribed different groups of medicines due to their genetic reasons and their history of other diseases.

And the biggest thing is that if we take any medicine for a long time without consulting a doctor, then our kidneys, liver or other sensitive internal organs get affected.

I also want to invite here @tammanna @sualeha and @paholags

Thanks for reading my post, I pray to God for the progress and happy future of all Steemians.

With Great love and honour,

Sur-riti❤️
