The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Exodus 19, Post #4

in #hebrew3 days ago

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Exodus 19:16-20

There have been three days to prepare and the last step to consecration was to separate from your wife and abstain, so to speak. The next paragraph describes the morning of the third day.

I remember another special "Third Day" in the scriptures when the world would meet the One True God as he takes up his life again, as promised, and exits the tomb.

The above eludes to an earthquake and today's reading has Elohim (God) arriving with a trumpet blast, lightning, thunder and a thick cloud. Everyone in the camp trembled.

Moshe (Moses) begins to lead the people out of the camp to meet Elohim. The people "took their stand" at the foot of the mountain as their creator towers over them in a very loud and visual way.

Next, we read that the mountain was shrouded in smoke because YHVH ya-Rahd ah-Lahv v-Esh (YHVH descended upon it in fire.) Interesting because when Yeshua descends in the clouds with a great shout, and the dead in Christ will rise first... a Quote about His return. The above is missing the great shout and trump of God. But the passage does not neglect those. The verse continues with, ...smoke rising like (that of ) a kiln, the whole mountain trembled, and Coal ha-sho-Far (voice of the shofar), a very loud one.

We have a bit more to go. Moshe spoke and Elohim answered in thunder. God then descends to the very top of the mountain, calls out to Moshe to come up. Moshe goes up to meet YHVH there. The "come up" part also calls to the verse from the brit ha-da-Sha (New Testament) about Yeshua returning for his own. It is interesting to compare God descending to earth in the time of Moshe and His near future coming with nearly the same grand fanfare.

My summaries notes may be different from the pasted ESV English I write these posts while reading the Hebrew, not the English.

English

And he said to the people, "Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman."

On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the mountain and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled. Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because YHVH had descended on it in fire. The smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled greatly. YHVH came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. And YHVH called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
