This Week's Featured Steemians

His featured post today is a very inspirational look at where his permaculture journey began and how far he has come. The video is full of inspirational quotes with lines that can resonate with anyone working towards a dream - “I was willing to take a chance, most people won’t do that, these are not risk takers.” And “Someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality.” I could quote this video all day and still not do it justice. The video takes us over a five year period of James making his dream come true, through his hard word and determination he turned his ordinary backyard into an astonishing Food Forest. To me the message is simple… it won’t happen overnight and it won’t be easy, but if we keeping working towards our dreams, nothing can stop us. I would say that this is a motto that we homesteaders can relate to, but honesty, I think it is way bigger than that. I think this is a message that touches every single one of us.

Soap Making For Dummies By @alaskatactical

Now let’s take a look at @alaskatactical who joined Steemit in January of this year. He writes about a variety of interesting topics including gunsmithing, reloading, canning, fermentation, and meat processing. He writes “I have a goal of being self sustaining, which is very challenging where we live (Alaska), with long winters and little sun.” His goal on Steemit, like many of us, is to share the knowledge he has, while gathering knowledge from others.

His featured post today is a simple to follow tutorial on how to make traditional cold process soap. I think many people are a bit hesitant to make their own soap because they think it might be a difficult process. I think this post does an excellent job of explaining it in detail, allowing anyone to easily follow along. This tutorial gives us a wonderful base recipe along with photos to walk us through the process. The best thing about this recipe is it is easy to make it your own, by adding your choice of essential oils, herbs, or oats you can customize it to your personal preferences.

His other recent posts include Assault Rifles Are Already Banned, a short and to the point description of what an “assault rifle” is, and what it is not, and Beard Oil Review, A quick review of a local, all natural product he purchased recently.

Drain To Waste: An Introduction To Hydroponic Systems By @mpglax

Next up, we have a brand new Steemian, @mpglax, who defines himself as a “vegetable grower, beekeeper, world traveler, nature enthusiast, and simple dude.” He only has a couple of posts on Steemit at the time, but his featured post on Hydroponics proves he has a lot to offer to the platform. My hope is that by getting him a larger audience, we can encourage him to share his knowledge on a subject so many homesteaders are experimenting with today. In his post he tells us the benefits of draining the nutrient solution rather than recirculating it, for larger scale hydroponic systems and how to minimize waste in the process. We are excited to see the next post on this topic!

How To Integrate New Chickens Into An Established Flock By @naturealwysright

Now we have a Steemian who joined in January of this year, @naturealwysright. He says that he recently quit his day job to farm his backyard in San Diego, Ca. His posts include amazing and informative videos through Dtube, about everything gardening, including composting, pruning, making biochar and even how to set your garden up for when you to go on vacation. He walks us through how he produces an abundance of food on his ¼ acre lot. He writes, “My goal is to teach as many people as I can about regenerative farming techniques and how they can grow healthy food for their family and even make money as a small scale urban farmer.” His methods include a “focus on creating the healthiest soil, plants and animals possible.” He is example that you don’t need a huge piece of land to grow your own food and, if you do it right, you can even make money in the process.

His featured post today is a wonderful Dtube guide on how to successfully introduce new members into an established chicken flock. This is something that many of us have had to do a time or two, and it can be a stressful situation for us and our birds. In the video we are walked through the process and reminded of some amazing natural solutions to help the flock deal with the transition. This video is just one of the many informative posts that can be found on his blog.

His other recent posts include Adding Compost To Plants: Do’s and Don’ts, A wonderful guide of how to use compost correctly and Do Farmers Ever Take Vacations, A look at watering and plant care strategies for time away from the garden.
