Providence Canyon State Park, located in Stewart County in southwest Georgia, is famously known as "Georgia's Little Grand Canyon". This 1,003-acre park is considered one of Georgia's Seven Natural Wonders, featuring massive gullies up to 150 feet deep with colorful soil in shades of pink, orange, red, and purple. Remarkably, these stunning formations are largely the result of poor farming practices in the 1800s, which caused rapid soil erosion.

Key Features & Activities
Geology and Scenery: The park showcases 16 canyons with 43 different identified colors of sand. Visitors can view the geologic record of several million years exposed in the walls.
Hiking:
Rim Trail: Offers accessible views of the canyons from various overlooks.
Canyon Floor: A three-mile loop takes hikers down into the canyons (specifically canyons 1 through 9). Be prepared to walk through thin layers of water or mud.
Backcountry Trail: A more rugged seven-mile trail for experienced hikers and backpackers.
Unique Attractions:
Abandoned Homestead: A collection of nearly a dozen rusty 1950s-era cars and trucks remains in the park because removing them would cause further environmental damage to the fragile canyon edges.
Rare Flora: The park is home to the Plumleaf Azalea, which grows only in this region and blooms in July and August.
Camping: Six primitive backcountry sites and two pioneer campsites are available within the park. More traditional camping with RV hookups and cottages is available nearby at Florence Marina State Park.

Visitor Information
Location: Near Lumpkin, GA, approximately 45 minutes south of Columbus.
Fees: There is a $5 parking fee per vehicle.
Hours: Daily 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (extended to 9:00 PM from April 15 to September 14).
Tips:
Wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty or wet for the canyon floor.
The park can reach capacity on weekends; arrive early to ensure a parking spot.
The canyon floor gets significantly hotter than the rim during summer months.
