The Quranic Perspective on Science, Innovation, and Modern Tech
Assalamu-Alaikum-wa-Rahmatullahi- wa-Barakatuh!
Out of nowhere, the Quran skips straight past gadgets like phones or smart machines - yet it pushes curiosity, invites exploration. Curious minds find clues there, hints pointing toward invention. Depending on intent, tools become good or harmful - that idea sits at the core. How people act shapes what tech means, nothing more.
The Call To Explore And Innovate
Knowledge matters a lot in the Quran. Over and over, it tells people to look at the world around them, wonder why things happen, then dig into explanations. What you see isn’t just there - figure out what lies behind it.
Out there among the stars, verse after verse explain - study what builds a camel, watch how heavens lift Chapter 88 ٱلۡغَٰشِيَةِ in the Qur'an explain that much. Discovery unfolds when humans trace patterns hidden within matter, light, or code. Curiosity once flourished under desert skies, where thinkers shaped new tools for measuring space and time. Machines began breathing life long before our era, guided by minds who saw faith and reason walking side by side.technology used to help
Earth bends to human need, says the Quran. Within Islam, tools and machines take shape not for power but to lift lives.
Down in chapter: Al-Jathiyah 45:13
English - Sahih International
And He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth - all from Him. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
(English - Tafsir )
13 of chapter 45, there's a line about everything up above and down below being made ready for people. Because of that idea, new tools today can be seen as gifts - especially if they fix real struggles. Take robot-assisted operations or shots that stop disease: these fit well alongside verse 32 in chapter 5, where rescuing just one person counts as lifting up everyone i.e. Chapter: Al-Ma'idah 5:32 Allah explain that;
English - Sahih International
Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land- it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one[3] - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And Our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.
English - (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Things like power from wind or sun, cleaning dirty water, and staying connected across continents now become how we look after what exists.
- Ethical Limits and Duty
Though the Quran supports advances in technology, clear moral lines must be hold firm. Progress cannot drift beyond right and wrong. It speaks strongly against "Fasad" - harm or ruin brought by human actions. , Ar-Rum 30:41 Allah says;
English - Sahih International
Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He [i.e., Allāh] may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].
English -( Tafsir Ibn Kathir )
Verse 41 of Chapter 30 states plainly - what people do spills into land and sea as damage. Today, that idea shapes the way new tools and systems take form
From the start, caring for nature means avoiding tools that harm the land. Machines spewing waste into air or water go against responsibility. When systems wreck forests or rivers, they break a basic promise. Protection of living worlds comes before progress. Harm done to soil or seas shows failure in duty.
Truth matters online just as much as anywhere else. Spreading lies through tech ignores a clear rule found in Chapter 49, Verse 6. That part tells followers to check facts first; Al-Hujurat 49:6 Allah says :
English - Sahih International
O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.
English -( Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Harming others by sharing false stories breaks that teaching. So does stealing personal details or tricking someone with scams. Acting without proof leads straight into wrongdoing. The message is straightforward - look before you leap, especially online.

Conclusion
The Quran stands firmly in favor of modern technology, provided it elevates human dignity rather than degrading it. It views technology not as a competitor to faith, but as a powerful vehicle to improve human life. The ultimate message is simple: invent and use tools that heal the world, help the needy, and spread truth, while actively avoiding systems that cause harm, dependency, or destruction.
