Hello dear Steemians! I’m excited to share a significant experience from one of our recent academic and professional activities. Today, I want to highlight a practical training session we held for second-year undergraduate students, focusing on hands-on experience with hospital equipment typically used by dietitians. It was a fulfilling chance to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world application while mentoring future professionals in the field.

Training the Students on The Equipments used By Dietitian's in the Hospital.

The training session aimed to familiarize students with critical hospital tools utilized in nutrition and dietetic practice. Equipment included heightometers for measuring height, weighing scales for body weight assessment, MUAC tapes used to determine nutritional status of an individual, for either adults or children, sphygmomanometers for blood pressure measurement, and glucometers for blood glucose testing. Each tool was thoroughly explained, emphasizing its role, significance in clinical evaluations, and proper usage procedures. The objective was not only to showcase the equipment but to ensure students comprehended its application and relevance in patient care.

Given the large group of approximately 100 students, my colleagues and I implemented a well-structured approach. As three dietitians, we divided the students into smaller groups of ten. Each group rotated through tables with specific equipment, allowing every student to observe, learn from, and practice using each tool. This rotation system facilitated equal participation and avoided overcrowding, leading to a smooth and engaging session.

I specifically led the MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference) measurement segment, where I explained its importance in evaluating nutritional status, particularly in children and at-risk adults. I demonstrated how to properly position the tape, take accurate measurements, and interpret the data. Students then practiced these skills themselves, under supervision, which helped enhance their confidence and understanding.

The students were organized, cooperative, and eager to learn, which significantly expedited the process. Consequently, the practical session was highly coordinated and productive, allowing us to conclude on schedule. It was a truly rewarding experience to teach such disciplined students and impart practical skills that will benefit their future careers.
