Today is Mother's Day. Everywhere I look—on status updates and Facebook stories—people are posting loving tributes to their mothers and sharing photos with them. It is truly wonderful to see. However, when my mother was alive, this trend did not exist. To be honest, I don't even have a single photograph of myself with her.

But so what? Even though I can no longer touch or see my mother, her memories remain alive within my heart. Not a single day goes by without me thinking of her. The only difference is that my memories reside deep within my mind; and when the longing becomes too intense, only tears flow from my eyes. I speak of this to no one; these are my memories, and this is my private yearning. Therefore, today—with immense love and from the very depths of my heart—I say to my Mummy: "Happy Mother's Day."

Today, on Mother's Day, my children aren't able to celebrate anything particularly special either, as both of them are currently in the midst of their exams and are extremely busy with their studies. I simply took a few photographs with them. I told my children, "There is no need for any grand celebration, my dears. If you achieve success in your studies and your careers—that, in itself, is my gift. I ask for nothing more than that." Upon waking up this morning, my children touched my feet to seek my blessings.

In our Hindu Sanskrit traditions, it is considered a virtuous custom to touch the feet of one's elders to seek their blessings, ensuring that their benevolent grace remains upon us forever. Every day is Mother's Day; one can celebrate it whenever one wishes. After all, "Mother's Day" isn't meant to be confined to just a single day of the year. The bond between a mother and her child—and indeed, the family itself—is meant to constantly seek out and share happiness.

I went into my children's room and took a photograph with my elder son. Later, my younger son returned from his coaching classes, and I took a picture with him as well. My younger son has even posted it on his WhatsApp status; however, none of these external gestures are truly essential—there is no real need for them. What truly matters is genuine love, respect, and honor.

By the grace of God, my children provide me with exactly that; my children are my very life. Resting one's head in a mother's lap brings a profound sense of peace; when her hand gently touches one's head, it feels as though a protective canopy hovers above—a shield safeguarding us. One can hide in her lap, or take refuge within the folds of her anchal, finding shelter from all the evils of the world. It feels as though a mother possesses such immense strength that she can save her children from every worldly peril.

Happy Mother's Day!
