Vlog || First Time in The Farm This Year for Harvesting
So I decided to do a vlog on how my day went today. It's actually been a long time since I entered the farm. It's been a year, if I should be specific. My mom usually ensures that farm work is done in the early hours of the morning before the sun begins to shine so that our strength won't be drawn out by the scorching sun.
I went out with a friend who invited me to assist him with farm work on his farm. I accepted even though I had an appointment today. I just had to follow him down there.
We drove on a bike by 9:30 AM down to Afaha IBesiko Atai to harvest the cassava. We didn't go there with tools, as we had plan B for our tools collection. On getting to the farmland, we had to unwind before harvesting. I changed my clothes and took something that would cover me up, especially my legs, to avoid the wrath of weeds in the farm.
I took my machete and started clearing obstacles in the farm so I could get stems and shake them off the ground to bring out cassava. I held a machete to till the soil since it was just too hard to shake off and bring out successfully without cutting inside the ground.
I did play music on my phone to motivate me while under the scorching sun. I had to cover my head with a cloth, which I brought to prevent intense heat. I ate bean cake with bread to give me strength while I pushed through. My friend got me a carbonated drink to boost my energy... We did the harvesting together and gathered it out for sale.
It wasn't as big as we expected it to be, but it was sizable enough to get us a good tip. We gathered it and called someone to purchase it from us. She didn't give us a good price, so we had to package it in two bags and take them home to sell in an open market the next day.
Crazy moments we had today |
|---|
- One of such crazy moments was when the buyer came and bargained as if she were bargaining a small fry. This made us so angry that we had no other option than to laugh uncontrollably.
- Another crazy moment was when we were stuck with the bike we brought. It couldn't start, and I feared that we'd be stuck here in this village for a long time. I didn't want that to happen. After several trials to get the bike fixed, it worked, and we were able to move with the bags of cassava on my lap.
- Holding two big bags of cassava on my thighs made a lot of people wonder how much strength I had to do that on a bike.
It was a fun-filled and memorable day. My first day at the farm this year.

I can tell you really had a great day today because I could see it through the smile on your face in your video. Sorry about the bruises, that's not just bruises but a mark of hard work and purposefulness. I'm glad you both succeeded in harvesting the cassava and I hope my share has been kept separately.
Everyone wants to get a fair price for their hard work. I hope you sell your product in the open market and get a great price. Which will bring the right amount of your hard work. Thank you.
